Tadaaaaaaahhhhhhh! Cross Lane Tunika von Christiane Brakhage

So, ein weiteres UFO, das der Pandemie zum ,,Opfer" gefallen ist (Ich arbeite seit März UFOs ab und habe schon einiges geschafft, wie ihr diesem Blog entnehmen könnt). ;) Angefangen im August 2019, dann weggelegt und vor einigen Wochen wieder hervorgeholt, ist die Cross Lane Tunika von Christiane Brakhage nun endlich fertig. Mit verlängerten Ärmelchen und V-Ausschnitt. Ich habe mit einer 4 mm Nadel und einem Cotton King Twirl gehäkelt. Für die Taille habe ich dann jeweils einige Runden mit 3,5 mm und 3 mm gehäkelt. Finde ich bei diesen Mustern immer praktischer als Maschen abzunehmen und dann wieder zuzunehmen. Mir gefällt sie super und ich habe schon das passende Langarmshirt gefunden, um sie auch im Winter tragen zu können.

I finally finished my Cross Lane Tunic by German designer Christiane Brakhage, which I started in August 2019. I set myself a goal to finish as many UFOs as possible in 2020 and since the beginning of this pandemic, I already finished about 7 or 8. Very successful so far and I never thought, I'd do that without starting something new.

Storm Clouds Top: Taaaaadaaaahhhhhhh!!!!

....dazu geworden. Mein Storm Clouds Top ist fertig! Und es gefällt mir super! Ich musste wie immer einige Änderungen am Originalmuster (Christina Hadderings Spotting Clouds Top) vornehmen, damit mir das Top auch passt. Diese findet ihr auf meiner Ravelry-Projektseite, zusammen mit Garnangaben, Nadelstärke etc. Vielleicht hilft es dem ein oder anderen bei der Verwirklichung seines perfekt passenden Tops. :)

Like almost always I needed to make some changes to the original pattern (Christina Hadderingh's Spotting Clouds Top) to fit my shape. You can find my notes, including yarn, hook size etc., on my Ravelry project page and maybe the notes can help one or the other to make their own personal and perfect fitting top. :)

Ein Sturm zieht auf..../A storm is coming....

Nein, nicht wirklich. Es sieht so aus, als ob die Frühlingsstürme hier erst mal vorbei sind und der Frühling mit wärmeren Temperaturen kommt. Bei meinem Storm Clouds Top wird es allerdings nun sehr dunkel und stürmisch, was die Farbe angeht. Der Twirl hat mich echt begeistert, von den Farben und der Verarbeitung her. Nun hoffe ich nur noch, dass er sich auch gut waschen lässt.

No, not really. The weather is nice around here and the spring storms are over for now with temps rising daily. But my Storm Clouds Top is going darker and darker by the round. I'm really happy with this Twirl, its colors and the way it works up. Now I only hope that the top washes nicely and doesn't stretch too much or looses color.

Layla Tunika: Taaaaadaaaaahhhhhhhh!

Meine Layla-Tunika muss unbedingt noch einen eigenen Beitrag bekommen, da sie einfach zu schön ist, um sie nur kurz in einem anderen Beitrag anzusprechen. Gehäkelt habe ich sie nach einem Muster von Christiane Brakhage mit einer 3,5 mm Nadel und einem dreifädigen Farbverlaufsgarn von Zaubermausis Wollstübchen.

My Layla tunic has to get its own Tadaaaaahhh post, because it is way too beautiful to just mention her in another blog post. I crocheted her after a pattern by Christiane Brakhage with a 3.5 mm hook and a color gradient yarn cake by Zaubermausis Wollstübchen.

Das Garn hieß Van Gogh und die Farben sind eindeutig von seinem Gemälde ,,Sternennacht" inspiriert.

The yarn cake was named Van Gogh and was inspired by his painting "Starry Night".

Ich habe damals zwei Bobbel des Garns mit jeweils 1.500 Meter gekauft, jedoch nur knapp einen verbraucht. Der zweite kann also noch was anderes Tolles werden. :)

Back then I bought tow yarn cakes with 1'500 metres each, but only used one for the tunic. The other one will become something beautiful, too. :)

Storm Clouds Top WIP

Da ich vergangene Woche ja meine Layla-Tunika fertig gemacht habe, konnte ich dieses Wochenende mit einem neuen Top anfangen. Ich mag die Scheepjes Whirls ja echt gerne, aber sie sind doch recht teuer und ich brauche für meine Größe meistens mindestens zwei und sie sind so gut wie nie im Angebot. Also habe ich mich nach einer Garnalternative umgeschaut und bin auf die Cotton Kings Twirls/Twirls Deluxe gestoßen. Unschlagbar günstig, wenn sie im Angebot sind.

Since I finished my Layla Tunic last week, I was able to start a new top over the weekend. I really like the Scheepjes Whirls, but for a top in my size I need at least two. So I look for a yarn alternative and came across the Cotton Kings Twirls/Twirls Deluxe. Very reasonable pricing, when on sale.

Die Farbe heißt Star of India Sapphire und ich verarbeite sie derzeit zum Spotting Clouds Top nach Christina Hadderingh. Aufgrund der Farben habe ich meins allerdings in ,,Storm Clouds Top" umbenannt. ;) Das Maschenbild ist auf jeden Fall schon mal klasse.

The color is called Star of India Sapphire and I'm working it into the Spotting Clouds Top by Christina Hadderingh. I renamed my top ,,Storm Clouds Top" due to the colors. ;) The stitch definition in this yarn is so nice.

Und nach dem Wochenende bin ich soweit, dass ich die Ärmel abteilen kann. Ich werde einige Luftmaschen mehr als im Muster machen und auch bei der Passe habe ich einiges verändert. Das könnt ihr wie immer auf meiner Projektseite nachlesen.

Paint Party Friday: Very Vincent!

No, today, there are no paints, pencils and crayons involved in my piece of art. Today I share with you a "painting" in yarn and hope it qualifies for PPF. :)

We all know Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Night, as this painting is one of his most famous ones, besides the sunflowers. And I love it! That's all. ;)

So of course I had to buy these gorgeous yarn cakes named "Van Gogh", when I saw them in the online shop of an independent seller called Zaubermausis Wollstübchen. She winds every single one of her yarn cakes by hand, carefully knots the color changes and gives them beautiful names. I bought them in late summer 2018, but what to do with them?

Then I came across the beautiful crochet garments designed by Christiane Brakhage, which can only be found in the FB Group "Coole Handarbeiten für starke Persönlichkeiten". Most of them are only in German, but some were also translated to English. And so my Layla Tunic slowly takes shape in Van Gogh's Starry Night colors. In LOVE!

Layla Tunika

Weil mein derzeitiges Strickprojekt sehr viel Konzentration erfordert und jede Reihe unterschiedlich ist, brauchte ich ein einfaches Häkelprojekt für die Abende vor dem Fernseher. Also habe ich eine Layla-Tunika angefangen. Das Muster ist von Christiane Brakhage und sie entwirft wirklich wunderschöne RVO-Muster für Farbverlaufsgarne. Diese beiden Bobbel habe ich bereits 2018 gekauft und werde nun einen zu dieser Tunika verarbeiten. Wunderschöne Farben!

Since my most recent knitting project is challenging, as every row is different, I needed a "no-brainer" pattern for the evenings, while watching tv. So I started a Layla Tunic. The pattern is from German designer Christiane Brakhage and she's designing beautiful top-down garments for those color gradient yarn cakes. I already bought these Van Gogh cakes in 2018 and now will use one for this shirt. LOVE the colors!

Alfa Knits' Stripes Gone Crazy Cardigan

Manchmal ist der Beginn eines neuen Projektes pures Chaos. Als ich die Stripes Gone Crazy angefangen habe, war das der Anfang...........

Sometimes the beginning of new project is pure chaos. When I started the Stripes Gone Crazy, it looked like this...........

Glücklicherweise ist das Muster so toll beschrieben und begleitet einen durch jeden Schritt, so dass es nach ein paar kompletten Runden un so aussieht. Super, gell? Ich bin ganz verliebt in das Muster und das Garn.

Gladly the pattern is so well described and clear and leads you through every single step, that now after a few rows it looks like this. Gorgeous, isn't it? So in love with the pattern and the yarn so far.

Die Bluse: Noch'n Versuch/The Blouse: Another attempt

Nachdem ich nun einige Male (eher erfolglos) versucht habe, ein kostenloses Blusenmuster an meine Maße anzupassen, habe ich es nun mal mit einem Kaufmuster probiert. Von BurdaStyle gibt es inzwischen auch sehr schöne Muster in großen Größen, bei denen auch die Kurven ein wenig besser berücksichtigt sind. Und da sind wir nun, mit einem preiswerten Karostoff.

After several (failed) attempts of trying to adjust a free blouse pattern to my personal size, I decided to try it with a bought pattern. BurdaStyle recently have some very nice plus-size patterns in their collection, considering us curvy ladies, too. And here we are with an inexpensive ginham fabric.

Es sieht zumindest schon mal aus wie eine Bluse und sie passt auch. Allerdings ist die Länge für die im Muster angegebene Körpergröße von 168 cm viel zu lang. Ich bin sogar etwas größer und kann das als Kleid tragen. Selbst die kürzere Version der Bluse ist noch zu lang für mich. Aber kürzen kann man ja immer, andersrum wird's schwierig. ;) Ich bin gespannt auf das Endergebnis.

It already looks like a blouse and also fits. But the length is questionable for the body height of 168 cm listed in the pattern. I'm a bit taller and I can wear this as a dress. Even the shorter version is much too long for me. But you can always shorten a piece, while vice versa is a wee bit more difficult. ;) Looking forward to the outcome of this.

Woodland Walk Sweater: Taaaaadaaaaaahhhhhh!!!!

Ich habe ganz vergessen, vom fertigen Woodland Walk Sweater ein Foto zu machen und zu teilen. Hier ist er nun, schon mehrfach getragen und zur Nr. 2 bei den Lieblingspullis aufgestiegen. Gestern beim Wühlen in den Wintersachen habe ich dann noch passende Stulpen dazu gefunden. Die Kälte ist also kein Problem mehr. :)

I completely forgot to take a photo of my Woodland Walk Sweater and share it with you. So here it is, wore it several times already and it quickly became no 2 on my list of my favorite sweaters. Yesterday I found a pair of wrist warmers in my stash of winter accessories and they are the perfect match. The cold isn't a problem any longer. :)

Abgehobenes Nachthemd/ Space nightshirt

Ich bin ziemlich sicher, dass dieser Stoff eigentlich für kleine Jungs entworfen wurde, aber wen juckt das? :) Wenn man von Raumfahrt und Science Fiction à la Enterprise und Co. so fasziniert ist wie ich, dann darf es auch mal ein Raumfahrer-Nachthemd sein. Und nachdem meine Mutter es gesehen hat, möchte sie nun auch eins haben. Allerdings ohne Raumschiffe. ;)

I'm pretty sure, that this fabric was originally designed for little boys, but who cares? :) When someone is fascinated by all things concerning space and science fiction à la Enterprise like I am, than I can sew myself a space nightshirt, too. My Mom saw it and now wants one, too, but without the spaceships. ;)

Kurzer Schlafanzug/Pyjamas

Zum Geburtstag habe ich letztes Jahr neben anderen Stoffen auch noch zwei Stücke Baumwolljersey bekommen, mit dem Auftrag, etwas für mich zu nähen. Also habe ich mir einen kurzen Schlafanzug genäht, nachdem das mit dem Jerseynähen so gut klappt. :)

Besides other fabrics I also got two pieces of cotton jersey for my birthday last year, with the order to make something for myself. I made myself short pyjamas, since sewing jersey isn't a problem any longer. :)

 

Eine passende Hose gibt's natürlich auch. Die Schnittmuster stammt aus dem Buch ,,Jersey nähen".

I also made matching pants. The patterns are from the book "Jersey nähen" (which might be available in English, too).

Lady Topas Top von Mialuna

Wie begann das Jahr bei Kokopelli Design? An der Nähmaschine, WIPs fertig nähen. Ich hatte mal angefangen, Kleidung aus Jersey zu nähen, aber meine Nähamschine mochte den Stoff so gar nicht, also habe ich das Teil weggelegt und die restlichen Stoffe eingemottet. Nachdem ich im Internet ein wenig recherchiert habe,  wie ich meine Maschine doch noch dazu bewegen kann, Jersey zu nähen und nun auch im Besitz einer Overlockmaschine bin, konnte ich nun endlich ein Shirt fertig nähen, das  ich schon zwei Jahre rumliegen hatte. Das Lady Topas Top von Mialuna. Noch kein Meisterwerk, aber für ein Sommertop für zu Hause und im Garten wird es schon seinen Zweck erfüllen. Schaut mal wieder rein, da es bald noch mehr Klamotten zu sehen gibt.

So how did the new year start at Kokopelli Design's workshop? On the sewing machine, finishing WIPs. I once started sewing cloths from jersey fabrics, but my sewing machine didn't like sewing jersey fabric, so I put away some already cut out projects. Now, after doing some research on how to make my machine sew jersey fabrics and also got myself an overlock machine, I finished a shirt, I had laying around for two years now. The Lady Topas Top by Mialuna. Not a masterpiece, but will do for a summer top, wearing at home or in the garden. Stay tuned, as there are more cloths to see soon.

Convergence Top: Taa-daaahhhhh!

Ich kann nicht glauben, dass ich euch das Convergence Top nie hier auf dem Blog gezeigt habe. Dabei ist es schon seit Februar fertig und wirklich eins meiner Lieblingsstücke. Als ich das Muster gesehen habe, musste ich es einfach nachhäkeln.

I can't believe I never showed you the Convergence Top here on my blog. I already finished it in February and it's one of my favorites since then. When I saw it, I had to make it.

Weil das Originalgarn leider sehr teuer ist, habe ich mich nach Alternativen umgeschaut und gesehen, dass andere dieses Problem auch hatten. Unter anderem Tammy von Canadutch. Sie hat sich für Alize Bamboo Fine Batik entschieden und da mir das Garn sehr gut gefiel, habe ich es ebenfalls ausprobiert. Ein voller Erfolg! Und die zusätzlichen Tipps von Tammy waren sehr hilfreich beim Nacharbeiten dieses Tops. Danke!

Since the original yarn is very expensive, I looked around and found that many people had the same problem. I found Tammy's blog Canadutch and she used Alize Bamboo Fine Batik as her substitute yarn. I loved that yarn and bought it, too. Success! Plus the tips posted by Tammy were very, very helpful to make this top work for me. Thank you!

Convergence Top: back

Zweites Leben für ein Lederhemd/Second chance for a leather shirt

Es gibt diese Arbeiten, in die man viel Herzblut investiert hat und die vom Empfänger (der sie in diesem Fall sogar bestellt hatte) nicht wirklich gewürdigt werden. Es ist inzwischen weit über 10 Jahre her, dass ich dieses Lederhemd mit über 8.000 Glasperlen bestickt habe. Es war für einen damaligen Freund und ich habe dafür einen Bogen von ihm bekommen. Leider lag das Hemd, seit er es bekommen hat, ungetragen und vergessen im Schrank. Vor einigen Jahren dann kam es zu mir zurück, durch Zufall und lieblos in eine Tüte gestopft. So hat es ein zweites Leben bekommen und ist nun der Eyecatcher auf Märkten, zusammen mit dem Bogen, gegen den ich es damals eingetauscht habe. Ich bin froh, dass es wieder bei mir ist. :)

There are these works, you put all your heart into and which aren't really appreciated by the recipient (who in this case ordered it). More than 10 years ago I embroidered this leather shirt with over 8'000 seedbeads. I did this for a former friend and traded it for a bow. Sadly after he got it, he put it in the cupboard and never pulled it out again. Some years ago I got it back, roughly stuffed in a plastic bag. So it got a second life with me as a showstopper in my booth (when I do shows) and hangs there with the bow I once traded for it. I'm glad I got it back. :)

WIP Wednesday: Waldläufer Update

Es ist mal wieder Mittwoch und damit Zeit, euch den Stand des Waldläufers zu zeigen. Inzwischen bin ich über das zweite Armloch hinaus und es ist wieder etwas Grün zu sehen. Ich bin gespannt, wie weit der zweite Whirl reicht, oder ob ich den dritten noch angreifen muss (wie bei Dunkelbraun schon passiert).

It's WIP Wednesday and time to show you the progress on the Waldläufer. I reached the second armhole and the green color shows again. I'm excited to see if the second Whirl is enough or if I have to use the third again (like with dark brown).

Da ich Westen vorne gerne immer geschlossen trage und der Waldläufer mit einer Tuchnadel geschossen wird, habe auch ich mich auf die Suche gemacht und dann diese hier bestellt. Toll, nicht wahr?

I also found the perfect shawl pin for closing the vest. Isn't it gorgeous?

A stack of handmade clothes......

A stack of handmade clothes.....knitted, crocheted, sewn.....handmade by me with one exception: the brown knitted Norwegian cardigan at the base of the stack. My Mom made two of them (one for her and one for my Dad) back in the early 1970's, when wool wasn't readily available through online shops and couldn't be shipped all over the world. Her aunt ordered it for her, as she had contacts in the knitting and embroidery scene. My Mom gave me that cardigan some years ago, as she knew I''m attached to it and the memories woven into it. A heirloom piece! (And scratchy as hell! *LOL*)

Why I do tell this story? Because this was the cardigan that started my journey of handmade clothes and I'd love to encourage others to try and make their own garments, too. So prepare for some reading. ;)

Around the same time I got the cardi I took a sewing class and tailored myself a pair of linen pants (third from top) which has the perfect fit for me (a seamstress was teaching the class and she did a great job!). At home I sewed myself a blouse (fourth from top). And then I came across Crochetverse's Garden Party Jacket CAL (fifth from top), so why not crocheting a piece of garment? The pattern was great, while the fit, due to my curvy outine, wasn't that great. But what? I was so proud of that first crocheted piece, that I immediately started another one: KT & the Squid's Kram Cardi (second from top). And boy do I love that cardigan! Warm, cosy, perfect loose fit, great yarn and so easy to make due to a great pattern. And those buttons! Perfect find!

A bit later I came across the Drops Garnstudio page........don't ask, but I saved dozens of patterns on the first days. *LOL* Then I decided to give the Christel Vest (top of the stack) a try. What I absolutely love about the Drops patterns is, that they are available up to sizes XXL or even XXXL, so curvy ladies don't have to do their own math and can start right away. The Christel Vest was made during a camper holiday in beautiful October last year and again I found the perfect buttons for the vest. And then my love for Norwegian/Scandinavian sweaters hit in......you know the heirloom cardi Mom gave me........

The Arctic Circle Sweater was born, made from another Drops pattern and the lovely original yarn Drops Nepal, and I never ever had a sweater fitting so perfectly. I love, that's all I can say. Of course I had to practice the Fair Isle knitting on another piece, which led to the Winter Berry Cushion, but otherwise I never knitted anything else than socks.

Next in line became Linda Skuja's Convergence Top (5th from bottom). I saw it and had to have it. Skinny model with almost no curves.......ok.......I think I can do that. With some help and tips from Canadutch and her version of the top, some online research about how to shape crochet garment and trial and error I made it. I noted my changes on the Ravelry project page linked above, so others can use them, too. I do this with all my projects, as it's a great tool to use. Next one in line was the Drops Country Dream Tunic, which I made more a casual sweater than a tunic. Loved the effect the variegated yarn adds to this piece.

Then another I HAVE TO MAKE THIS moment came with Fran Morgan's Granny Stripe Top (2nd from bottom). I did like the overall idea and the look of this top, but I knew I had to add some shaping to it to make it wearable for me. So I did it (notes again on the Ravelry project page) and it turned out perfect. I didn't wear it yet, but fall and winter will be here soon, so I'm looking forward to wearing it for the first time.

Did you read all through it? Looks like a straight journey, right? But no, it wasn't. There were struggles with the fit, with gauge swatches, with finding a substitute yarn and there were failures like the beautiful Lilla Bjorn Sweater. I loved this sweater, the look, the idea, all........and then, almost finished, I had to frog it, as I couldn't make it fit to my body, not for the life of me. But in the end I have 10 finished pieces on my list (and two WIPs) and they are all wearable.

So if you always thought about trying and making your own piece of garment, just get started, with a first simple piece, sewn, knitted, crocheted, whatever you like. They won't be perfect in the beginning, but with every piece you will learn and you will get better. So do it! :)

Fran Morgan's Granny Stripe Top: Taaa-daaaahhh!

Als ich das Granny Stripe Top von Fran Morgan zum ersten Mal gesehen habe, musste ich es unbedingt haben. Auch wenn weiß nicht wirklich meine Farbe ist und ich Klamotten aus reinem Acrylgarn nicht mag. ;) Also habe ich mich auf die Suche nach einem passenden Garn und anderen Farben gemacht. Am Ende ist es mal wieder ein Garn von Drops geworden und zwar das Cotton Merino in zwei Grün- und zwei Pinktönen.

When I saw Fran Morgan's Granny Stripe Top, I had to have it. Although white isn't really my color and I don't like 100% acrylic yarn for clothes. ;) So searching for a yarn substitute and alternative colors was next on the list. Again I found a very nice yarn at Drops and chose to got with two shades of green and two shades of pink of the beautiful Cotton Merino.

Nachdem ich mich entschieden hatte, an einem passenden Shirt entlang zu häkeln, ging es eigentlich recht flott und das Muster ist perfekt bei der Hitze - ohne viel Nachdenken. Ich habe noch ein paar Änderungen an der Taille, Schultern und Halsausschnitt vorgenommen, um den Sitz zu verbessern und auch am Hals und Bündchen Abschlusskanten gehäkelt. After deciding to crochet the top after one of my favorite polo shirts, it was going fast. The pattern is a perfect no-brainer pattern, which works up without thinking during this hot summer. I made some adjustments to the hip part, neck and shoulders and added trims to the neck and the bottom. The information for the changes to the original pattern can be found here.

Und hier ist es nun! Kann es gar nicht erwarten, dass es kühler wird und ich es tragen kann. Ich habe sogar ein passendes Langarmshirt im Schrank gefunden, so dass es auch im Winter getragen werden kann.

And here it is! Can't wait for cooler temps, so I can wear it. And I even found a matching long sleeve in my stash, so I can wear it in winter, too.

Drops Country Dream Tunika

Als Urlaubsprojekt hat sie angefangen und zwei Wochen nach dem Urlaub war sie endlich fertig. Mehr legerer Freizeitpullover als Tunika ist es geworden, aber ich liebe die Country Dream Tunika von Drops (obwohl ich sie bei der Hitze nur kurz anprobiert habe). Das Garn heißt Alize Cotton Gold Batik und eignet sich hervorragend für Übergangspullover, da es nicht so warm wie Wolle ist, aber durch den Acrylanteil eben auch ein wenig kuscheliger als reine Baumwolle.

Started this as a holiday project and finally finished after being at home for two weeks. The tunic turned out more a casual sweater than an elegant tunic, but I love it so much already (although I only wore it a very short time for testing in this heat). The yarn is Alize Cotton Gold Batik and is perfect for spring or fall sweaters, as it isn't as warm as wool, but with the acrylic content also a bit more cosy than pure cotton.

Um Häkelteile mit Stäbchen an den Seiten zusammenzunähen, empfehle ich immer gerne die Methode von Edie Eckman, da diese Technik eine unsichtbare Naht ergibt. Alle anderen Infos zu NS, Anpassungen, verkürzte Reihen etc. zur Tunika findet ihr auf meiner Ravelry-Projektseite.

Gehäkelte Kleidung/Crocheted Garment

 Es fing alles mit dem Garden Party Jacket von Crochetverse an. Inzwischen bin ich bei meinem dritten Kleidungsstück angekommen und ich muss sagen, nach anfänglichen Schwierigkeiten, was die Passform angeht, wird es immer besser mit den gehäkelten Kleidungsstücken.

Kleidungsstück Nr. 2 war die Kram Cardi von KT & the Squid. Sie war super einfach zu häkeln mit einer tollen Anleitung und kommt mit dem Merino-Mischgarn von Schoeller Stahl toll raus. Einziger Fehler: Merinogarn bei 35°C Hitze verhäkeln macht keinen Spaß. ;)

Ein großes Plus neben der Passform ist bei selbstgehäkelten Kleidungsstücken, dass man sie zu richtigen Einzelstücken machen kann, zum Beispiel durch ein paar schöne Knöpfe. Die Drachenknöpfe habe ich zum Beispiel online gefunden.
