A Time To Stitch 8: What's your bag?

Finally after some months of thinking, designing, creating and waiting the big reveal of ATTS 8 is here. Thank you, Christine and Therese for hosting the event for the 8th time now. Love it!!!!

 

 

So what's my bag? It clearly is an amulet bag and since my totem animal is the polar bear it has to be bear-themed. Plus I was able to work with my two favorite materials: leather and beads. But there is much more about it. So first I made the two-drop peyote beaded paw square and added it to a handsewn deerskin amulet bag. When I thought about embellishment I found a few special pieces some dear friends, Nicole and Ursel once sent me.

 

The handmade antler button was once bought and made in Germany, then brought to the US and now sent back to me. How awesome is that? Thanky, Ursel! :)

 

Next the tin cones: I love the sound they make when the fringe moves! Simply love it. Four of the tin cones (the outer two on each side) were sent to me all the way from the Pacific Northwest by my dear friend Nicole. Thank you so much, Nicole! :)

 

I would have loved to make a beaded pendant form the black bear claw I had in my stash for years, but I couldn't gather enough infos to make the best of it, so it's in the phot unbeaded.

 

So this bag will always remember me of two dear friends I have never met in person.

Ich glaube, ich bin zur Zeit in Frühlingslaune. Ich denke nur noch an Blumen, frisches Grün, knallige Farben und leichten, frechen Frühlingsschmuck. Und was habe ich mir aus den Perlen ausgesucht, die Jeannie mir geschickt hat? NATÜRLICH die Cherry Blossom!

 

I think I'm in spring mood, as all I can think of are flowers, fresh green leaves, bright colors and easy going, fresh spring jewelry. So what did I pick of the beads Jeannie sent me? OF COURSE the Cherry Blossom!

 

 

Der Frühling ist endlich da und das sieht man auch in diesem Armband. Dieses Armband werde ich am Samstag nochmals beim Bead Soup Blog Hop posten, da auch Perlen aus der Suppe mit verbastelt wurden. :)

Bead Soup: die zweite hat's geschafft!/the second package made it!

Hey, hey, endlich ist meine Perlensuppe da! Könnt ihr glauben, dass die erste Suppe irgendwo zwischen Großbritannien und Deutschland verloren gegangen ist? Leider mußte meine Partnerin Hannah deswegen eine zweite schicken.

Hey, hey finally my bead soup is here! Can you believe that the first soup got lost between the UK and Germany? I'm so sad that my partner Hannah got to send a second package.

 

 

Aber schaut euch mal die tollen Sachen an, die sie mir geschickt hat! Viele Anhänger (Ich liebe den mit Pfeil und Bogen!), Glas- und Steinperlen, ein süßes Meerjungfrau-Lesezeichen (das nach Seaglass und Muscheln ruft) und eine hübsche Grußkarte. Na, das ist doch mal eine leckere Suppe.

But look at all the goodies she sent! Lots of pendants (I love that bow and arrow!), glass and gemstone beads, a cute mermaid bookmark (which says seaglass and shells, please) and a beautiful card. Now isn't that a delicious bead soup?

 

Endlich mal wieder Perlen/Finally beads again

Ich habe diese bulgarische Münze unter meinem Münzgeld gefunden. Ich denke mal, ich habe sie aus Versehen als Wechselgeld bekommen, da sie der 1-Euro-Münze sehr ähnlich sieht. Und die Kehrseite hat ein sehr schönes Bild und so mache ich mal einen geperlten Anhänger draus, vielleicht für den Rückspiegel meines Autos. Immerhin hat mich diese Münze wieder zum Perlen gebracht. :)

 

By accident I got this Bulgarian coin and thought the reverse side might look good as a pendant, maybe as a rearview dangle in my car. I think I got this coin as change, as it looks exactly like a Euro coin, but I didn't realize it wasn't. At least it got me back to beading. :)

Leder, Perlen und ein bißchen Draht/Leather, Beads and some Wire

Ich habe euch ja meinen Lederschatz gezeigt und ich glaube, man hat mir die Freude über dieses Geschenk und die Großzügigkeit meines Freundes angemerkt. Als erstes habe ich mir ja eine neue Handytasche aus braunem Hochglanzleder gemacht und nun habe ich mit ein paar kleineren Stücken herumprobiert.

You know about my gifted batch of leather and the joy I felt about this gift and the generosity of my friend. The first piece I made was a cell phone pouch from a piece of high gloss leather and now I played around with some smaller pieces.

Dieser Armreif ist nach meiner Lieblingsmethode entstanden: einfach machen, nix denken und nur Dinge verwenden, die man daheim hat. Einige meiner schönsten Stücke sind so entstanden.

This cuff was created in my favorite way of creating: create as I go. No planning, just fun and looking through my stash what I got on hand to make the next step. Some of my best pieces developped like that.

Angefangen hat es mit einem dreieckigen Stück Leder, das ich ein paar Tage mit mir rumgetragen habe (ja, wirklich, ich hatte es einige Tage in meiner Hosentasche) und dann ist mir die Idee gekommen, eine Lederperle oder einen Anhänger für eine Kette zu machen. Zugeschnitten, mit Perlen und Draht verziert und aufgerollt.

I started with a triangular piece of suede, carried it around with me (yes, really, it was in my pocket for several days) and then decided to make a bead or centerpiece for a necklace or cuff from it. I cut the suede to a perfect triangle, added some wire and beads and then rolled it up.

Dann habe ich das Lederteil auf dicken, mit Plastik ummantelten Kupferdraht gezogen, den Draht mit Lederumwickelt und Perlkappen auf die Enden geklebt. Und schon hat man ein schönes, tragbares, bequemes und einzigartiges Schmuckstück!

The last step was some thick, plastic coated copper wire, some leather cord and two bead caps from my stash. I strung the centerpiece, wrapped the copper wire with leather cord and glued the bead caps to the ends. Voilá! Nice, wearable, comfortable, unique piece of jewelry.

Fashion Inspiration Blog Hop: Christian Dior or Sonia Rykiel

Marcie von La Bella Joya hat sich mal wieder ins Zeug gelegt und sich eine Color Challenge für uns ausgedacht (ihr erinnert euch bestimmt noch an ,,Margie & Me"), diesmal als Fashion Inspiration Blog Hop und da mußte ich einfach teilnehmen. Ich bin zwar keine Modemaus, aber ich konnte mir gut vorstellen, was Passendes für die beiden Outfits, die Marcie ausgesucht hat, zu machen. Unten seht ihr die beiden Outfits mit den jeweiligen Farbpaletten.

Marcie over at La Bella Joya thought about a new color challenge like the ones based on Margie Deeb's book "The Beader's Color Palette" which I liked very much. Now she's hosting a Fashion Inspiration Blog Hop and I had to participate. Although I'm not a fashionista I could see myself designing something to go with the outfits Marcie chose. You can see them below with the matching color palette.

Und obwohl mir die leuchtenden Herbstfarben in dem Sonia-Rykiel-Outfit sehr gut gefallen haben, habe ich mir doch Christian Dior ausgesucht. Das Model sieht so romantisch und fast schon elfenhaft aus und ein florales Design wäre perfekt dafür.

And although I liked the bright fall colors in the Sonia Rykiel outfit I chose to go with Christian Dior. The model looks so romantic and almost elvenlike and I thought something floral is perfect to go with that outfit.

Der Designprozess war zwar kurz, aber ich habe ihn nie als so vollständig erlebt wie dieses Mal. Ich hatte dieses schöne dunkellillafarbene Wild-Kunstleder und das war mein Ausgangspunkt: das Design zeichnen, die Blätter filzen, die kleine Blume perlen, einen Knopf aussuchen, alles zusammennähen, von Hand und mit der Maschine.

The design process was short, but never felt so complete before. I got this beautiful dark purple faux suede and went from there: sketching out a design, felting the leaves, beading the little flower, choosing a button, sewing it all together by machine and by hand.

Ich denke, dieses Armband kann man getrost als ,,Mixed Media" bezeichnen. Und er ist soooo angenehm zu tragen!

I think this cuff can really be called "mixed media". And it's soooo comfortable to wear!

Joint Venture oder Talents United

Vor einigen Wochen habe ich ein tolles Messer von einem sehr talentierten Messermacher bekommen. Der Griff ist aus einem Geweihstück gemacht. Am Griffende befindet sich ein sehr hübsches Detail, welches das Messer zu etwas wirklich besonderem macht: ein Adler, ausgesägt aus einer1-DM-Münze.

Some weeks ago I got a beautiful knife from a very talented craftsman. The handle is antler and at the end of the handle there is an eagle taken from the old 1-D-Mark-coin. The whole knife is special and one-of-a-kind, but the coin makes it even more special.

Natürlich musste ich für ein solches Messer auch eine besondere Messerscheide machen. Wunderschönes, dunkelbraunes Wildleder mit einem Innenleben aus Rindsleder und verziert mit Fransen und verschiedenen Glas-und Knochenperlen. Die Scheide sieht aus, als ob da ein RIESIGES Messer drin wäre, aber sie wirkt nur so groß durch die langen Fransen. Ich mag es wirklich, wenn sich verschiedene Talente zu so einem hübschen Endprodukt und Einzelstück vereinen.

And of course I got to make a special sheath for it. Beautiful dark brown suede with an inlay of cowhide and decorated with fringe and various bone and glass beads.This one looks like there is a HUGE knife in it, but the knife is really small and only the fringe makes the sheath look so big. I really like it when various talents got together in such a beautiful OOAK piece.
