A Time To Stitch 5: Drei Armbänder/Three Bracelets

First I have to say a BIG thank you to our wonderful hosts Christine and Therese for organizing this challenge! This is my second time participating in ATTS and I guess the badge explains it all in a few words, what ATTS 5 is all about.

 

 

So what stitch did I choose? I have this fabulous beading book by Diane Fitzgerald, called “Zulu Inspired Beadwork”. All my beading life I’ve been in love with traditional beadwork, especially with Native American and African beadwork of all kinds. I thought about Ndebele/Herringbone, Peyote and all the stitches wellknown to the beading community. But I chose to go with two stitches not so well known. Both are from Diane’s book.

One is Popcorn stitch, which is easy to do and makes fun summer bracelets and necklaces. Depending on size, shape and color of your beads your piece can be casual, elegant or bold. I recommend doing this stitch with beading thread like Nymo or C-Lon, not with Fireline, so the piece stays flexible and is comfortable to wear. I only made two bracelets with popcorn stitch.

 One with size 8/0 seedbeads in rainbow colors, interrupted by sections in black and white:

And one with 10/0 red whiteheart seedbeads, also interrupted by black and white sections:
   

 

 The second stitch I used is Switchback Chain with which I already made a lot of bracelets, for swaps, giveaways and for myself. The first one is my all-time favorite and was made a little longer ago. Black 11/0 seedbeads encase a colorful bead soup of seed and bugle beads. Fun, isn’t it? I LOVE this bracelet!
 

 

The second one is made with black 11/0  seedbeads and 5 mm bugle beads in sunny colors. Also fun to wear!

 

For the last I changed the base bead color to a pearlized white and used 3mm Miyuki cubes in ocean colors to fill the gaps. I used one of my favorite buttons in my collection: a Bohemian glass button. This look soooooo good on suntanned skin and the alternating rows make it look like waves on your wrist!

7th Do Over Challenge

Es ist wieder mal Do-Over-Challenge-Zeit! Ich habe dieses Ketten- und Ohrringset mit gemischten Halbedelsteinen wie Lapislazuli, Karneol u.a. von Jeannie bekommen. Das Set ist aus ihren Anfangszeiten der Schmuckherstellung und hat sich nie verkauft. Das Ziel der Challenge ist also, etwas Neues aus einem alten Stück zu machen.

 

It's Do Over Challenge time again! I got this necklace and earring set with multi gemstone beads like lapislazuli, carnelian etc. from Jeannie. It is from her early times of making jewelry and never sold. So the task of this challenge is to overdo the piece and make something new.

 

 

Dieses Mal wollte ich gerne mit Draht spielen und habe Draht, Zangen und Denise Pecks Buch "Wire Style" rausgeholt, um mich inspirieren zu lassen. Und hier ist das Resultat: eine Variation von ,,Geometry" von Jodi L. Bombardier (S. 98).

 I decided to go with wireworked, so I pulled out my silverplated wire, pliers and Denise Peck's book "Wire Style" to get inspired. And here's the result: a variation of "Geometry" by Jodi L. Bombardier (p. 98).

 

Und mit den Resten habe ich ein Paar asymmetrische Ohrringe gemacht.

 

And with the leftovers I made a pair of asymmetrical earrings.

 

 

 

 

Und das ist übrig geblieben: ein bißchen Kette, einige Metallperlen und ein grüner Steinchip. Leider könnte ich das hübsche Metallmittelteil nicht verwenden. War einfach nicht mein Stil und ich wollte etwas für mich Tragbares machen.

 

And that is what's left over: some chain, some metal beads and a green stone chip. Sadly I couldn't use the beautiful focal piece, as it simply isn't my style and I wanted make something wearable for me.

Echo Creative Club April: The Reveal!

Ich glaube, ich bin zur Zeit in Frühlingslaune. Ich denke nur noch an Blumen, frisches Grün, knallige Farben und leichten, frechen Frühlingsschmuck. Und was habe ich mir aus den Perlen ausgesucht, die Jeannie mir geschickt hat? NATÜRLICH die Cherry Blossom!

 

I think I'm in spring mood, as all I can think of are flowers, fresh green leaves, bright colors and easy going, fresh spring jewelry. So what did I pick of the beads Jeannie sent me? OF COURSE the Cherry Blossom!

 

 

Der Frühling ist endlich da und das sieht man auch in diesem Armband. Dieses Armband werde ich am Samstag nochmals beim Bead Soup Blog Hop posten, da auch Perlen aus der Suppe mit verbastelt wurden. :)

 

Spring has sprung and everyone can see it in this bracelet. This bracelet will be posted again on Saturday for the Bead Soup Blog Hop, because some beads are from the soup my partner sent me.

Umperlte Pfeilspitze/Beadbezeled Arrowhead

Neben den Perlereien und Basteleien ist ja auch allgemein bekannt, dass ich eine leidenschaftliche Bogenschützin bin. Ich versuche immer, meine Handarbeiten, besonders die Perlen, und auch Bogenschießen in meinen Alltag zu integrieren, weil das einfach ich bin und worüber ich mich definiere.

 

You know that, besides being a beader/crafter, I am also a passionate archer and that I try to bring my beadwork, my crafts and also my passion for archery into everyday life. I just got to, as this is what I am and what defines me.

 

 

Hier entsteht gerade meine erste umperlte Pfeilspitze. Schlauchpeyote mit 15/0-Rocailles. Ich habe ein Stück Wildleder um die Pfeilspitze geklebt, damit der Peyoteschlauch nicht verrutscht und ohne weiteres Kleben hält. Unten seht ihr dann den fertigen Anhänger an einer Schlangenkette. Perfekter Bogenschützen-Schmuck!

 

So here's a pic of the WIP on my first beadbezeled arrowhead. Tubular peyote with 15/0 seedbeads. You can see that I glued a piece of suede onto the arrowhead to make the peyote tube stay in place without any further glueing. Below you can see the finished pendant on a snakechain. Perfect archery jewelry! 

 



 

Weihnachten ist ja noch weit weg, aber ich denke schon an Weihnachtsgeschenke. Handgemacht braucht halt Zeit. Und diese Pfeilspitzen (als Ketten- oder Schlüsselanhänger) wären perfekte Geschenke für meine Bogentrainer.

 

Christmas is still some months away, but I already think about what to make as Christmas gifts. Handmade takes some time. And I really think, that beadbezeled arrowheads (pendants or keychains) would make nice gifts for my fellow archery instructors.

Lederschmuck/Leather Jewelry

Ein einfaches, aber originelles Lederarmband, das Männlein und Weiblein tragen könnten. Ich konnte mir nie vorstellen, dass Lederschmuck so angenehm zu tragen ist.

A simple but unique bracelet which can be called "unisex". I never imagined how comfortable leather jewelry would be to wear.

Die Bärenfährte habe ich ins Leder gebrannt und dann das Leder gefettet, damit alles ein wenig dunkler wird.

I burnt the bear tracks into the leather and the finished with some leather wax to make it all a bit darker.

Bestellungen/Commissions

Vor kurzem habe ich eine kleine Bestellung für eine Freundin fertiggestellt. Bei dieser Kette war der Anhänger zerbrochen und ich habe ihn einfach mit einer Folienperle in der gleichen Farbe ersetzt.

Recently I made some commissioned pieces for a friend. The pendant of this necklace was broken and I replaced it with a foil bead in the same color.

Dann habe ich noch eine zweite Kette gemacht mit einer Folienperle in türkis, versilberten Messingperlen und zwei kleinen Lampenperlen.

Then there is a necklace with the same foil bead in turquoise, silverplated brass beads and two small lampwork beads.

Diese Kette mit Rhodonit, Perlen und Rosenquarz hatte ich schon länger in meinem Shop und nun habe ich noch Ohrringe und ein Armband dazu gemacht, damit das Set komplett ist.

This necklace sat in my online shop for a while and now I made earrings and a double strand bracelet to complete the set.

Twisted Ndebele/Herringbone

Weiter geht's mit den Ndebele-Spielereien! Ich hatte mir diese Farbkombination von Rocailles schon etwas länger zusammengesucht, habe aber einfach keinen Perlenstich gefunden, bei dem ich alle drei Perlen gleichwertig verarbeiten konnte. Aber nun hat's geklappt. Den Verschluß trägt man logischerweise vorne, da er gleichzeitig als Blickfang und Anhänger dient. Der Ring ist ebenfalls mit Ndebele gefertigt und zwar mit zwei verschiedenen Perlengrößen, damit er sich wölbt und zum Ring schließen läßt. Der Verschluß war ein bißchen kompliziert, da er zuerst nicht geschlossen blieb und dann die Fransen zuviel waren und nicht mehr durch den Ring paßten. Aber auch das ließ sich dann irgendwann lösen.

Next round in playing with Ndebele! I had this color combo of seedbeads sitting on my table for a while, but couldn't find a stitch combining all three colors in the same amount. But now it worked. The clasp is worn in front, as it serves as an eye catcher and pendant, too. The toggle ring is also made with Ndebele, but with two different bead sizes, so it curls and forms a ring. The clasp was a bit tricky, as first it didn't stay closed and then the fringe didn't fit through the toggle ring. But even that problem could be fixed.
