Wade's Blanket CAL: Part 2

Hello and welcome to Part 2 of the Wade's Blanket CAL, hosted by Zooty Owl and Kokopelli Design! Are you having fun? We hope so! :)

Please share your progress on our Facebook Pages Zooty Owl and Kokopelli Design so that we can include them in our next posts!

Today's pattern is

Traditional Granny Square
(with a twist)

PATTERN TERMS:    US
YARN WEIGHT:   DK (8PLY / LIGHTWORSTED WEIGHT)
HOOK SIZE:   5.00mm
SQUARE SIZE:    12cm x 12cm
Start with a magic ring. If you're not sure how to make a magic ring, you can find a good video tutorial here. Alternatively crochet 5ch and work Round 1 into the 5th chain from hook.

Round 1: 5ch (counts as 1dc, 2ch), *3dc into ring, 2ch*, repeat * to * 3 times 2dc into ring;   sl st into 3rd chain of the beginning 5ch to close round.

Round 2: Sl st into 2ch space; 3ch (counts as 1dc); (2dc, 2ch, 3dc) into 2ch space; *3dc, 2ch, 3dc into next 2ch space*, repeat * to * 3 times; sl st into 3rd ch of beginning 3ch to close round. Break off yarn. Turn work.

For a nice way to break off yarn and weaving in the ends, have a look at Part 1 of the CAL, where I shared a little tutorial.

Note: I will change colors a round later, so I have three rounds white and three rounds in color, but do on your own squares as you please. :)

Round 3: Working on the wrong side, join yarn in space after corner 3dc;   3ch (counts as 1 dc),  2dc into same space;   *(3dc, 2ch, 3dc) into corner 2ch;   3dc into space between 3dc groups*, repeat * to * 3 times; (3dc, 2ch, 3dc) into corner 2ch, sl st into 3rd ch of beginning 3ch to close round. Turn work.

Your square should now look like this on the wrong side (the side you worked Round 3 on):

And on the right side it should look like this. This is also the side you're now working Round 4 on:

Round 4: Working on the right side 3ch (counts as 1 dc), 2dc into same space; 3dc into each space between 3dc groups to corner;   *(3dc, 2ch, 3dc) into corner 2ch;   3dc into each space between 3dc groups to corner*, repeat * to * 3 times;   (3dc, 2ch, 3dc) into corner 2ch, sl st into 3rd ch of beginning 3ch to close round. Turn work.

Round 5: Working on the wrong side, join yarn in space before corner 3dc; 3ch (counts as 1dc), 2dc into same space; *(3dc, 2ch, 3dc) into corner 2ch; 3dc into each space between 3dc groups to next corner*, repeat * to * 3 times; (3dc, 2ch, 3dc) into corner 2ch; 3dc into each space between 3dc groups to start 3dc group, sl st into 3rd ch of beginning 3ch to close round. Turn work.

Round 6: Working on the right side 3ch (counts as 1dc), 2dc into same space; 3dc into each space between 3dc groups to corner; *(3dc, 2ch, 3dc) into corner 2ch;   3dc into each space between 3dc groups to corner*, repeat * to * 3 times; (3dc, 2ch, 3dc) into corner 2ch, sl st into 3rd ch of beginning 3ch to close round. Break off yarn.

Congratulations! You've made the first Granny Square. Can you see the rims in the square, that turning of your work made. So it's a Granny Square with a twist.

Have fun making your squares and see you again in two weeks with Part 3 of Wade's Blanket. 1. Was fuer eine Tortur!
