Aus ihrem Buch ,,The Beader's Color Palette" sucht Marcie nun alle 14 Tage eine neue Farbkombination aus und die Teilnehmer lassen sich davon zu einer Arbeit inspirieren. Marcie over at La Bella Joya posted a challenge every two weeks, called Margie & Me. I participated for the first time and it was a lot of fun. Almost all beaders know Margie Deeb and her works about colors and color combinations. Marcie chooses a new color combination from Margie Deeb's book "The Beader's Color Palette" and the participants get inspired by it and create a piece. More infos can be seen on Marcie's blog. AntwortenLöschenYes, they are. I tried to make two in the same size for earrings, but it didn't work. But they came out great with their slightly different size in this piece.
AntwortenLöschenYour cabs are gorgeous. Love the color combination. I haven't done any bead embroidery... yet. Just at the "read about it" stage. What do you use as a backing to get started?
AntwortenLöschenThanks, Donna! I use many kinds of backgrounds, depending on what color fits the beads best. One is a kind of faux leather which feels and looks like suede, but it is much easier to stitch through. For buttons, where I can't remove the shank I use 3mm thick felt. Then I also use deerskin or window leather, which are also easy to stitch through.
AntwortenLöschenThanks, very helpful. What about needles and beading thread? Can I use what I normally use for beadwork?
AntwortenLöschenYes, you can use the same needles and thread for bead embroidery. Sometimes you need to match needle and thread to the beads, but you'D do that in beadwork, too. For example if you use crystals or bugles, take Fireline so the beads don't cut the thread. I mostly use Nymo, Fireline and a a kind of artificial sinew that can be split intoseveral strands down to thread diameter. If you have any further questions, ask right away. :-)
