Friday Face Off: Sunflowers

 I posted this sunflower (one of many in my garden) with the two bumblebees and then someone wrote: "Your sunflower looks very surprised!" Can you see the face, too?

I have several sunflowers in my garden, scattered all over the veggie beds. I didn't plant a single one of them, but they grow by accident from the sunflower seeds in the compost. The compost is where I empty the parrot food bowls. So my parrots help with gradening and I think, they did a great job.

Friday Face Off (FFO): Eurasian Jay

 Hello and welcome for Friday Face Off, hosted by my dear friend Nicole. I have some Eurasian Jay portraits for you and I hope you like.

The one below somehow reminds me of Uncle Carl-Eugene from the family portrait gallery or something. :D

Pretty sure I showed you this little watercolor portrait already. It went through all stages of ugly, before it became nice. But the problem is always when to stop, before I overdo the paintings.

 I drew this donkey portrait back in March for a daily drawing challenge called #animalmarch. I missed out on FFO so often, that's why I share this cutie so late with you all. Hope you enjoy it despite of my delay.

Friday Face Off (FFO): Portrait Challenge

For the weekly portrait challenge on Bluesky last week, this "Portrait of a young woman, drawn with pastels on paper by Federico Barocci, sometime between 1585-1590" was the reference. I fell in love with her and tried my best, but portraits are so not up my alley and they aren't something I practice very often.

 

I think the main problem is her left eye, the rest is ok.

Friday Face Off (FFO): Cynthia the Song Thrush

 On Bluesky (and formerly on other platforms) I follow many bird and nature photographers and one of them is Aintright, who takes beautiful photos of European songbirds and many others. One of my favourites is "Cynthia the Song Thrush" (all bird species have names and I love this fact). She's an absolute beauty and I love to sketch her, although I have to admit, that her markings are really challenging to capture.

Friday Face Off: Guinea Fowl

 I'm a bit late to Friday Face Off, but here we go. In March I do a drawing challenge called #animalmarch and there's a prompt to paint every day.

Guinea Fowls are fun birds with beautiful coloring on their heads and gorgeous dotted feathers.

I painted these on some cardboard strips, that I get from a friend. They are used for marking transport boxes and are thrown in the bin after single use (there's often only a number on the back).

I've already drawn a  lot of animals on them and hope you like my entry for FFO. Thanks, Nicole for hosting!

Friday Face OFF (FFO): Squirrel Faces

My dear friend Nicole literally forced me to come over and join her Friday Face OFF. As you might know, I'm not a big fan of drawing humans or human faces, so I go with some cute squirrel faces.

I LOVE to draw and paint birds, but promised to be braver this year and draw other animals. So here are some red squirrels (or Eurasian squirrels). I found a brown colored pencil in my workdesk drawer, so I used it to draw them.
