Ofenhandschuhe XXL/Oven Mitts XXL

Meine Eltern wollten gerne neue Ofenhandschuhe haben, also habe ich versprochen, welche zu nähen. Beim Nähen des Prototypen stellte sich heraus, dass das Ding zu eng ist und das, obwohl ich an der Hand/am Arm meines Papas Maß genommen hatte (von der kompliziert geschriebenen Anleitung und dem völlig unnötigen Herumgepfriemele mit Schrägband mal ganz zu schweigen). Nach dem Prototypen war dann erstmal die Luft raus. Wenigstens passt er mir. ;)

My parents requested a new pair of oven mitts, so I promised to sew them some. After sewing up a prototype, it turned out that it was way too tight around Dad's arm (not to mention the more than complicated pattern and the absolute needless use of bias tape in it). After finishing the prototype my desire to make an adjusted air was completely gone. At least the prototype fits me. ;)

Aber dann bin ich über die wunderbare Anleitung von Westfalenstoffe getolpert und habe danach XXL-Ofenhandschuhe für den Herrn mit den Popeye-Unterarmen (aka Papa) genäht. Und weil ich ja ein Fan von Jeans-Recycling bin (regelmäßige Leser wissen das), besteht der Außenstoff komplett aus wiederverwendeten Hosen. Gefüttert habe ich sie mit Baumwollstoff.

But then I came across the fantastic tutorial by Westfalenstoffe and made a pair of XXL oven mitts for the gentleman with the Popeye forearms (aka Dad). And since I'm a fan of denim recycling (regular readers know about that fact), I made the outside completely out of recycled jeans. The mitts are lined with cotton fabric.

 

Was man aus alten Handtüchern machen kann/What to do with old towels

Leute, die regelmäßig meine Seite und meinen Blog verfolgen, wissen dass ich Recycling-/Upcyclingprojekte sehr mag, egal ob aus abgetragenen Jeans, Kaffeeverpackungen oder alten Handtüchern. Dieses Mal mussten ein paar alte Handtücher dran glauben und wurden als Haartrockenturban und als Abwaschlappen wiedergeboren.

Das Muster für den Handtuchturban ist aus der Landlust 03/2018 und findet sich hier. Ich habe allerdings kein Schrägband verwendet, sondern einfach die Webkante vom Handtuch als Kante beim Zuschnitt eingeplant.

People who follow my page or read my blog on a regular basis, know that I love recycling/upcycling old things. Be it worn out jeans, coffee packages or towels. This time I cut up some towels and made some hair drying turbans for Mom and me. The rest went into dish cloths.

The pattern for the turban is in German, but the template can be found on page 3. Enlarge to 200%, cut two pieces, sew together and add a button to the wide side and a loop to the narrow side, that's it. When cutting the pieces, use the towel edge, so you won't need the bias tape mentioned in the pattern.

Ich habe alle drei Flaschenüberzüge fertig und sie gefallen mir sehr gut. Nun geht's weiter mit Überzügen für Kerzengläser. :)

 

I finished all three bottle covers now and I love them. Now I'm trying my hand on candle jar covers. Watch out! :)

Recycling: Nadelkissen/Pincushions

Ich denke, Nadelkissen sind perfekt, um Stoffreste und -restchen loszuwerden. Man kann sie aus Stoffresten nähen und sie mit Stoffresten ausstopfen. Man kann sie sogar mit Resten von Bändern und Litzen dekorieren (wie oben).

I think pincushions are perfect for recycling fabric scraps, aren't they? You can sew them from fabric scraps and stuff them with fabric scraps. You can even use ribbon scraps to decorate them (like the one above).

Und man kann nie genug Nadelkissen auf Vorrat haben, um sie einer nähverrückten Freundin an ein Geschenk zu hängen.

And one can never have enough ready made pincushions to tag them to a gift for a creative friend.

Stoffbezogene Schachtel/Fabric Covered Box

Ich habe mal wieder einer ,,alte Schachtel" recycelt und sie mit Stoff bezogen, um eine Geschenkverpackung für eine Freundin zu machen, von der ich auch immer was Selbstgemachtes geschenkt bekomme. In die Schachtel habe ich ein paar gehäkelte Socken gepackt. Das war mein erster Versuch, eine Schachtel mit Stoff zu beziehen und es hat erstaunlich gut geklappt. Und wieder einem Stück Müll zu neuem Leben verholfen!

I recycled and old candy box and covered it with fabric to make a gift box for a friend. She always gives me something handcrafted for Christmas or my birthday, too, and this time I packed a pair of crocheted socks in the box. This was my first try in covering a box with fabric and it worked really good. And again given new life to a piece of trash!

Upcycling/Recycling

Vor kurzem hat meine Freundin Jeannie einen Post über Upcycling auf ihrem Blog veröffentlicht. Gestern kam dann eine Freundin auf einen Kaffee vorbei und wir haben den Nachmittag damit verbracht, das hier zu machen:

Sie hatte diese Verpackungen eines Badezusatzes schon eine ganze Weile gesammelt und nun haben wir sie zusammengenäht, um einen Kulturbeutel draus zu machen, der auch noch wunderbar nach den Badezusätzen duftet. Da schaut man doch Verpackungen ganz anders an, bevor man sie weg wirft. Und was habt ihr in letzt Zeit upgecycelt?

She collected a whole lot of foil packagings from a bath additive with beautiful photos on it and we sewed them together to make a toiletry bag. Now how cool is that: using trash to make something beautiful: a toilet bag with all the delicious fragrances from the bath additives! So what did you upcycle?
