Cabled Wash Mitts: a free pattern by Kokopelli Design

Yarn: Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/8 (100% cotton, DK weight). In my example I used color bag no 9 with 10 rainbow colors and 2 balls of color 02 for the tops. Each 50 g ball plus a bit of white is enough for one mitt.

Hook: 4 mm and 3.5 mm

Size: With DK yarn and a 4 mm hook, this turns out approx. 12 cm x 22 cm.

Pattern is written in US terms.

Sl st = Slip stitch

Ch = Chain stitch

Sc = Single crochet

Dc = Double crochet

These mitts are worked in the round, beginning from a starting chain, so there’s no need to sew them together in the end or close the bottom.

Starting row: With main color ch 28 (last 3 ch count as the first dc of round 1).

Round 1:  Dc in 4^th chain from hook. Dc in next 24 stitches (25 dc plus 3ch = 26 dc). Then work the next 26 dc in the bottom loops of the starting chain and sl st in the first stitch (which is the top ch/3^rd ch) .(52 dc)

Round 2: Ch 3 or a standing dc, then work 1 dc in each stitch of the previous round. Sl st in the first stitch to close round. (52 dc)

Round 3 to 14: Repeat round 2. If you like, you can add a pattern. I for example used the cable patterns from the 2016 Bilbie & Friends CAL by Hatachlot/Sarit Grinberg (https://woolandfun.co.il/page-bilbie-friends-blanket-cal/). Or a add a letter by making popcorn stitches. Or V-stitch rounds. Use your imagination!

Round 15 & 16: Change to white yarn and repeat round 2. (52 dc)

Round 17 & 18: Ch 1, sc in same stitch you made the sl st in. Sc in each stitch around. Sl st in the first stitch to close round. (52 sc)

Loop: Ch 19. Then sl st in the bottom loops of the ch stitches all the way back to the first chain. Sl st into the first st from round 18 to close the loop. Break off yarn and sew in all ends.

That’s it! You made your first wash mitt. Now use your imagination to make more, different ones, colorful ones, from scraps, with more patterns etc. etc. etc. They make nice little gifts with a piece of handmade soap or look great in your own bathroom.

Man muss ja als handarbeitender Mensch schon mal früher an Weihnachten denken. Da ich einige Leute kenne, die gerne duschen oder in der Badenwanne rumlümmeln und deswegen auch gerne schöne Waschlappen und gut riechende Seife mögen, habe ich schon mal angefangen zu häkeln.

As a handcrafting person, one needs to think about Christmas a bit earlier. I know quite some people, who enjoy a shower or a bath in the tub, so these people like a nice washcloth and a piece of handmade soap. So I already started crocheting.

Platy......WHAT? Platypus!

Auf Englisch heißt Schnabeltier Platypus. Warum ich das weiß? Weil ich beim Suchen nach Topflappenmuster über das hier gestolpert bin. Genau wie den Yip Yip musste ich die einfach nachhäkeln. Aldi-Baumwollgarn mit einer 3,5 mm Nadel. 

Did you know that the plural of platypus is either platypuses or platypi? Why the heck do I know this? Because while searching for potholder patterns I came across this. And just like the Yip Yip I had to make a pair of them. Cotton yarn and a 3.5 mm hook.

Und wer ist nun dieser lustige Kerl? Einige kennen wahrscheinlich noch die Marsianer oder Yip Yips aus der Sesamstraße. Als ich vor einiger Zeit einen gehäkelten Yip Yip in einer FB-Gruppe gesehen habe, war klar, dass ich so einen auch haben musste. Und hier ist er nun, noch ohne Tentakeln und Futter, aber schon zum absolut Schlapplachen. Er wird vermutlich mal Wäscheklammern aufnehmen. Das kostenlose Muster gibt es hier, als Häkel- oder Strickversion. Und ein Link zu meiner Lieblings-Yip-Yip-Episode gibt es hier. In diesem Sinne: RRRRRRRRIIIINNNNNNNG! 

And who's the funny guy in the photo? Some of you might remember the Martians or Yip Yips from Sesame Street. Since I saw one of those Yip Yips in a crochet group on FB, I had to make one for myself. And here he is, without lining or tentacles, but absolutely hilarious. He'll hold my clothes pegs soon. The free knit or crochet pattern can be found here. Storm Clouds Top: Taaaaadaaaahhhhhhh!!!!

....dazu geworden. Mein Storm Clouds Top ist fertig! Und es gefällt mir super! Ich musste wie immer einige Änderungen am Originalmuster (Christina Hadderings Spotting Clouds Top) vornehmen, damit mir das Top auch passt. Diese findet ihr auf meiner Ravelry-Projektseite, zusammen mit Garnangaben, Nadelstärke etc. Vielleicht hilft es dem ein oder anderen bei der Verwirklichung seines perfekt passenden Tops. :)

....turned into this. My Storm Clouds Top is finally fnished! And I love how it turned out! Like almost always I needed to make some changes to the original pattern (Christina Hadderingh's Spotting Clouds Top) to fit my shape. You can find my notes, including yarn, hook size etc., on my Ravelry project page and maybe the notes can help one or the other to make their own personal and perfect fitting top. :)

Ein Sturm zieht auf..../A storm is coming....

Nein, nicht wirklich. Es sieht so aus, als ob die Frühlingsstürme hier erst mal vorbei sind und der Frühling mit wärmeren Temperaturen kommt. Bei meinem Storm Clouds Top wird es allerdings nun sehr dunkel und stürmisch, was die Farbe angeht. Der Twirl hat mich echt begeistert, von den Farben und der Verarbeitung her. Nun hoffe ich nur noch, dass er sich auch gut waschen lässt.

No, not really. The weather is nice around here and the spring storms are over for now with temps rising daily. But my Storm Clouds Top is going darker and darker by the round. I'm really happy with this Twirl, its colors and the way it works up. Now I only hope that the top washes nicely and doesn't stretch too much or looses color.

Layla Tunika: Taaaaadaaaaahhhhhhhh!

Meine Layla-Tunika muss unbedingt noch einen eigenen Beitrag bekommen, da sie einfach zu schön ist, um sie nur kurz in einem anderen Beitrag anzusprechen. Gehäkelt habe ich sie nach einem Muster von Christiane Brakhage mit einer 3,5 mm Nadel und einem dreifädigen Farbverlaufsgarn von Zaubermausis Wollstübchen.

My Layla tunic has to get its own Tadaaaaahhh post, because it is way too beautiful to just mention her in another blog post. I crocheted her after a pattern by Christiane Brakhage with a 3.5 mm hook and a color gradient yarn cake by Zaubermausis Wollstübchen.

Das Garn hieß Van Gogh und die Farben sind eindeutig von seinem Gemälde ,,Sternennacht" inspiriert.

The yarn cake was named Van Gogh and was inspired by his painting "Starry Night".

Ich habe damals zwei Bobbel des Garns mit jeweils 1.500 Meter gekauft, jedoch nur knapp einen verbraucht. Der zweite kann also noch was anderes Tolles werden. :)

Back then I bought tow yarn cakes with 1'500 metres each, but only used one for the tunic. The other one will become something beautiful, too. :)

Storm Clouds Top WIP

Da ich vergangene Woche ja meine Layla-Tunika fertig gemacht habe, konnte ich dieses Wochenende mit einem neuen Top anfangen. Ich mag die Scheepjes Whirls ja echt gerne, aber sie sind doch recht teuer und ich brauche für meine Größe meistens mindestens zwei und sie sind so gut wie nie im Angebot. Also habe ich mich nach einer Garnalternative umgeschaut und bin auf die Cotton Kings Twirls/Twirls Deluxe gestoßen. Unschlagbar günstig, wenn sie im Angebot sind.

Since I finished my Layla Tunic last week, I was able to start a new top over the weekend. I really like the Scheepjes Whirls, but for a top in my size I need at least two. So I look for a yarn alternative and came across the Cotton Kings Twirls/Twirls Deluxe. Very reasonable pricing, when on sale.

Die Farbe heißt Star of India Sapphire und ich verarbeite sie derzeit zum Spotting Clouds Top nach Christina Hadderingh. Aufgrund der Farben habe ich meins allerdings in ,,Storm Clouds Top" umbenannt. ;) Das Maschenbild ist auf jeden Fall schon mal klasse.

The color is called Star of India Sapphire and I'm working it into the Spotting Clouds Top by Christina Hadderingh. I renamed my top ,,Storm Clouds Top" due to the colors. ;) The stitch definition in this yarn is so nice.

Und nach dem Wochenende bin ich soweit, dass ich die Ärmel abteilen kann. Ich werde einige Luftmaschen mehr als im Muster machen und auch bei der Passe habe ich einiges verändert. Das könnt ihr wie immer auf meiner Projektseite nachlesen.

Paint Party Friday: Spring Gift Tags and a finished yarn painting

Hello and welcome!

This week I felt the urgent need for spring and since we had a huge spring storm coming through, there wasn't much spring outside. So I decided to draw myself a bit of spring with these cute gift tags. Lots of small critters and typical spring flowers I can find in my area and also in my small garden. 

I used a black ink pen for the outlines and some details and then simple colored pencils to add some color to them (I always carry a metal box full of pencils in my backpack ;) ). They will come in handy for Easter gift giving or for upcoming birthdays.

Last Friday I shared with you my Van Gogh Tunic, crocheted with yarn inspired by the Van Gogh painting "Starry Night". Meanwhile the beauty is finished and I'm so in love with it. Layla Tunika

Weil mein derzeitiges Strickprojekt sehr viel Konzentration erfordert und jede Reihe unterschiedlich ist, brauchte ich ein einfaches Häkelprojekt für die Abende vor dem Fernseher. Also habe ich eine Layla-Tunika angefangen. Das Muster ist von Christiane Brakhage und sie entwirft wirklich wunderschöne RVO-Muster für Farbverlaufsgarne. Diese beiden Bobbel habe ich bereits 2018 gekauft und werde nun einen zu dieser Tunika verarbeiten. Wunderschöne Farben!

Since my most recent knitting project is challenging, as every row is different, I needed a "no-brainer" pattern for the evenings, while watching tv. So I started a Layla Tunic. The pattern is from German designer Christiane Brakhage and she's designing beautiful top-down garments for those color gradient yarn cakes. I already bought these Van Gogh cakes in 2018 and now will use one for this shirt. LOVE the colors!

Esja Sweater WIP

Was habe ich mir eigentlich gedacht, als ich angefangen habe, mir einen Pulli aus Garn in Sockenwollstärke zu häkeln???? *LOL* Aber er wird einfach nur schön. Lilla Björns Esja Sweater! Ich bin fast mit dem Bündchen am Körper fertig und dann fehlen nur noch die Ärmel.

Mimic Scarf by Polly Plum

Zu Weihnachten habe ich für meine Mama den Mimic Scarf von Polly Plum gehäkelt. Schaut euch die tollen Farben an!

I made Polly Plum's Mimic Scarf as a Christmas gift for my Mom. Look at the gorgeous colors of the Scheepjes Whirl!

Ich bin kein Drapierspezialist, wenn es um Schals geht, aber mir gefällt er super und er fällt wunderbar in der Variante mit dem Scheepjes Whirl (Pistacchio Oh So Nice). Ich hatte nur ungefähr 190 Gramm von der Waldläufer-Weste übrig, also musste ich ein wenig früher aufhören. Aber die Größe ist trotzdem perfekt für alle Tragevarianten. Meine Mama liebt den Schal und hat ihn seit Weihnachten fast permanent um den Hals. Danke, Justina, für das tolle Muster! Ich glaube, ich muss mir auch einen häkeln.

I'm not a shawl draping expert and will never be, but I love how it turned out and how it drapes in the version with the Scheepjes Whirl (Pistacchio Oh So Nice). I only had about 190 grams left of the Whirl, as I used some of it for my Waldläufer Vest, so I had to stop earlier. But the size is perfect for several wearing options. Mom loves it and wears it almost constantly since Christmas. Thanks, Justina, for the lovely pattern! I think I have to make another one for me.

Delfter Tischläufer/Delft Table Runner

Obwohl ich diesen Tischläufer schon 2015 fertig gestellt habe, habe ich ihn nie hier gezeigt. Ich nenne ihn den Delfter Tischläufer, weil er mich an das bekannte Fliesen- und Geschirrdesign in blau und weiß erinnert. Weil ich in den Ecken leider aus Versehen einigen Maschen zu viel gehäkelt habe, liegt er nicht ganz flach, auch nicht nach dem Spannen, aber mir gefällt er trotzdem super.

Although I finished this table runner in 2015, it seems I never shared it completed on my blog. I call it the Delft Table Runner, as the dark blue and white reminds me of the famous Delft tiles and porcelain tableware. Due to a mistake in the corners, it doesn't sit completely flat, not even after blocking, but I like it a lot.

Esja Sweater MAL Update

Dieser Moment bei der Rundpasse, wenn man die Ärmel abteilt, reinschlüpft und der Pulli passt......... :) 

Beim Esja Sweater MAL ist Woche 3 beinahe vorbei und ich bin schon ein klein wenig weiter. Nun sind laaaangen Runden der Passe vorbei und ich bin auf der Zielgeraden. Wirklich ein tolles Muster von Lilla Björn Crochet!

Week 3 of the Esja Sweater Mal is almost over and I'm a bit ahead. Finally the loooooong rounds of the yoke are over and I'm on the homestretch. A really great pattern by Lilla Björn Crochet.

Das Drops Flora war ebenfalls ein echter Glückstreffer, auf den ich durch die FB-Gruppe gestoßen bin. Das Originalgarn war mir einfach ein wenig zu teuer für meine Größe und die Drops-Garne waren bisher immer top.

The Drops Flora was also a lucky find and I became aware of that yarn through the FB group. The amount of the original yarn was a wee bit too expensive for my size and I really liked the Drops yarn in the past.

Woodland Walk und Esja

Als ich den wunderschönen Esja Sweater von Lilla Björn gesehen habe, musste ich mir natürlich gleich das Garn bestellen. Drops Flora. Das ist zwar nicht das Originalgarn, aber das hätte für meine Größe weit über 60 Euro gekostet. Irgendwie.......nee. ;)

Since I saw the beautiful Esja Sweater by Lilla Björn, I had to buy the yarn for this sweater. Drops Flora. It isn't the original yarn for this sweater, but for my size it would have cost me over 60 euros.........Nope!

Das pinkfarbene maßband kam als kleines Geschenk zum Garn und ich wollte sofort loslegen, aber.......da war ja noch was. Ein angefangener Pullover, den ich wegen der Sommerhitze im August und September weglegen musste: der Woodland Walk Sweater.

The cute little tape measure was a free gift, that came with the yarn, and I wanted to start at once. But.......there was a little WIP waiting, that I put away for the summer (too hot to knit with alpaca yarn): the Woodland Walk Sweater.

Aber so ein ganz kleines bißchen Esja musste ich doch schon mal machen. ;)

But I had to make a wee bit of Esja. ;)

Cosy Crochet Socks by Kaye Adolphson

Nur zwei Tage nach Ende des Scoktobers 2018 habe ich noch die Cosy Crochet Socks von Kaye Adolphson fertig gestellt. Das Muster ist toll beschrieben und auch das gewählte Garn kommt bei Muster super raus. Durch die spezielle Häkelweise längsseits bekommen sie ein wenig mehr Dehnbarkeit, was ja bei Häkelsocken immer der Knackpunkt ist. Sie sitzen auch sehr gut am Fuss, allerdings braucht man für Größe 40 schon ein komplettes Knäuel Sockenwolle (100g), deshalb unbedingt die Bündchen parallel zum Schluss arbeiten, damit man wirklich ausreichend Garn hat.

Two days after the end of Socktober 2018 I finished the Cosy Crochet Socks von Kaye Adolphson. The pattern ist very well written and I love how the chosen yarn came out in this pattern. By crocheting them lengthwise, the socks get a little more stretch which is important with crochet socks. They also fit the foot very nicely, although you need a full skein of sock yarn for a German size 40 (100g), so make sure to work both bands parallel in the end to make sure the yarn is enough.

Der (Crochet) Sockalong 2018 ist vorbei und das sind die Ergebnisse. Da Stricksocken ebenfalls möglich waren, habe ich natürlich auch diese hinzugefügt. Leider ist das letzte Paar noch hnicht ganz fertig.

Plane Trip Scarf Nr. 3: Taaaadaaaahhhhh!

Mein dritter Plane Trip Scarf ist endlich fertig und nun kann der Winter kommen. Er ist sooo schön gewörden und vor allem warm.

Ich bin verliebt.....in diese Farben!

Gestern habe ich von meinen Kollegen zwei wunderschöne Knäuel Wolle zum Geburtstag bekommen und mich hat es ind en Fingern gejuckt, sie gleich zu verarbeiten. Nachdem der Herbst nun auch hier angekommen ist, habe ich mal einen Plane Trip Scarf angefangen, aber ich werde wohl nur einen halben machen, da ich ein laaaaaaanges Dreieck haben möchte. Sind die Farben nicht toll? Das Garn heißt Rico Creative Ito Iro.

Yesterday I got two gorgeous chunky yarn cakes as a belated birthday gift from my coworkers and my fingers were itching to make something with them. Here fall arrived and the mornings get colder, so I decided to make a Plane Trip Scarf, but maybe only half of the pattern to make it a loooooooong triangle. Aren't those colors beautiful? The yarn is called Rico Creative Ito Iro.

The Magdalen Socks

Für den Sockalong 2018 habe ich endlich auch ein paar Häkelsocken fertig. Häkelsocken waren ja das Hauptthema und ich habe nach einem eher schlecht ausgegangenen Versuch vor ein paar Jahren eigentlich nur noch Socken gestrickt. Dann bin ich im Zuge des CALs über die Magdalen Socks gestolpert und sie sind wirklich klasse geworden und tragen sich super ohne einzuengen. Erstmal aus Resten gehäkelt, aber da folgt wie bei den Hipsulaisen Karusellis bestimmt noch ein ,,schönes" Paar.

For the Sockalong 2018 I finally finished some crochet socks, too. Crochet socks were the main theme this year and after a failed attempt some years ago I stuck to knitted socks since then. But then I found the pattern for the Magdalen Socks during the CAL and they turned out lovely and fit without "choking" my feet. I made this pair from scrap yarn, but I'm sure there will be a "nice" pair like with the Hipsulaisen Karusellis.
