Wie man Quasten macht/How to tie a tassel

I made some tassels to add as a finishing touch to my Snowdrop Shawls. Maybe I should have taken them from the beginning of the yarn cake, so they would be less curly. ;)

Snowdrop Shawl and Caron Cakes

Did you ever buy a skein of yarn, you weren't really sure about the colors and if you like them? That's was the fact, when I bought this Caron Cake in Blueberry Kiwi. But it was in shades of green and blue, so what? And now I started a shawl with it

There will be a second Shawl with another Caron Cake called Funfetti. That will be a hard decision which one to Keep and which one to gift. Or should I keep both or gift both? Decisions, decisions with a black winter jacket, which must be spiced up a bit. :)

WIP Wednesday: Bruinen

Not long ago while searching for a shawl pattern in one of the German crochet groups on FB, I came across the patterns by Jasmin Räsänen alias Morben Design. From a yarn cake by Lady Dee's Traumgarne I'm working on Bruinen. Beautiful, isn't it?

Rainbows after the Rain CAL: Second Cushion!

I finished the second Rainbows after the Rain cushion and I'm more in love with them each day. I'm especially proud of the fact, that I finally designed my first crochet square (thanks, Zelna, for pushing me off the cliff ;) ) and was invited by Zooty Owl to be part of the RAR CAL with my little square called the Dreamcatcher Square. It can also be found on Ravelry, so you can add it to your library. There are also some design examples to get inspired.

The other side of the second cushon is made of Granny Squares, which were part 2 of the RAR CAL.

The two panels were joined with Grey and Fiesta. If you're interested in the colorway I used, check the color inspiration post I wrote for the CAL.

Rainbows after the Rain CAL: First cushion finished!

I finally finished the first floor cushion for my nieces and I love how it turned out. I hope my nieces will love the cushions, too, as they are their Christmas gifts.

This is the Over the Rainbow Square which was part 3 of the Rainbows after the Rain CAL. Lovely, isn't it?

The other side is made from the Wheels of Time Square.

I joined the two squares with five rounds of dc, put a bought cushion filling inside and there you go. :) Stay tuned for the second cushion.

It all began with Crochetverse's Garden Party Jacket. Meanwhile I crocheted my third piece of garment and after some beginner problems with shaping I really like how they turned out.

The second piece was the Kram Cardi designed by KT & the Squid. Super easy to make with a great tutorial and it turned out lovely with the Merino Mix yarn by Schoeller Stahl. Only one mistake: Crocheting with merino yarn in 35°C is no fun. ;)

Another big plus besides the perfect fitting of handmade clothes is, that you can make the absolute OOAK pieces, for example by adding beautiful buttons. In found These Celtic dragon buttons online.

Stay stuned for Piece no 3, the Christel Vest by Drops.

Rainbows after the Rain CAL: Six!

ich neglected my blog for almost a month and it's time to share something with you, so here are my finished floor cushion fronts and backs from the RAR CAL patterns. LOVE them!

Rainbows after the Rain CAL: Wheels of Time

Finally my 6th and last cushion cover panel is finished. This time I used the Wheels of Time Square from part 2 of the CAL. I had to add some rounds to the original pattern to make them the correct size. I love how the color combinations turned out in this one.

Now it's time to make pairs from the panels and join them into three floor cushion covers. I will use the stripe patterns from the Rainbows after the Rain CAL.

Paint Party Friday: Transformation of an Owl

Last week I had fun with zentangling and while I was looking for patterns online I found some very cool zentangle animal drawings. So I took my owl drawing from August and......

...zentangled it. If that is a word. *LOL* Not 100% happy with it, but it was fun and a good start.

Rainbows after the Rain CAL: Some Days are Diamonds

Sometimes playing around with colors and color placement is real fun. In this case I used the Some Days are Diamonds Square from the Rainbows after the Rain CAL. The color placement changes the pattern so much.

Color change in every round

Solid colors

And all the beauties joined for the 5th cushion panel.

Papierlaternen/Paper Lanterns

My birthday preparations include the making of some paper lantern prototypes. My birthday 2017 is at the same time then Diwali, the Indian festival of lights and you can find a lot of paper lantern templates online related to the preparations for Diwali.

I illuminate the lanterns with LED lights to avoid the danger of fire.

With the beautiful fall Colors, the lanterns match the doilies, I recently crocheted for table decorations.

Paint Party Friday: Feathers and shading practice

Since I started drawing again some weeks ago, I need to practice some skills I've lost during my abscence. One of it is shading. I failed on these sea shells. *LOL* So I better get some more practice.

When I fail, I always try to get back onto comfortable terrain and do something simple, like graphic or abstract designs. I saw some beautiful zentangle feathers online and gave my own version a go. Feathers are small pieces of art, made by Mother Nature and decorating them makes them even more beautiful.

I tried my hand on leather feathers lately, too. After my first not so nice attempt I watched a lot of videos, got some new tools and had a look at the work of other leatherworkers and here is the second attempt. Still not perfect, but a big step forward.

Later I started another shading practice and it turned out way better on this maple leaf, but still room for improvement.

Tischdekoration/Table Decorations

My birthday is just around the Corner and I had an ealry start on table decorations this time. I already finished six Simply Squared Doilies and cut out a lot of paper fall leaves. Now I just have to get matching napkins and candles.

Rainbows after the Rain: Part 9

Hello and welcome to part 9 of the Rainbows after the Rain CAL, brought to you by  Zooty Owl and Kokopelli Design! I can't believe this is already the final part and that another CAL journey is over. For part 9 of the Rainbows over the Namib Desert Blanket you will add the border to your blanket.

Previous Posts

Since I made my original Rainbows over the Namib Desert Baby Blanket for a boy, I chose to go with a very simple border, consisting of only two rounds. You can add more sc rounds, if you like to add different colors to your border or you can also add a round of dc to make the blanket bigger. You can also add a completely different border. It all depends on your personal taste. The border I chose is one of my favorites and I used it in many blankets, for example the 2014 Scheepjes CAL designed by Marinke Slump aka Wink.

Round 1: Crochet a row of sc all around the blanket. Don't forget to make one stitch in each corner and one stitch in the joins of the stripes and squares along the sides. Into the four corners of the blanket you should make 3 sc. Sl st into the first sc to close the round

Round 2: *Ch3, 3dc in the same stitch as join, skip 2 stitches, sc in the next stitch.** Repeat from * to ** all around the blanket. This border goes smoothly around the edges with no further adjustments.

If you have any questions concerning the patterns or the CAL, join us in the Zooty Owl Crochet-a-long Facebook Group. We try to help! We would also love to see your photos of blankets and ponchos. :)

So I hope you enjoyed the Rainbows after the Rain CAL as much as we did and will be in for the next CAL.

Paint Party Friday: Vögel/Birds

So happy that I'm back with Eva and Kristin for Paint Part Friday and with the wonderful artists there. Here are some birds I drew in August: an owl and a kestrel.

I always enjoyed drawing and some of the pieces, especailly animals, find their way into my leatherwork.

Kürbiszeit/Pumpkin Time

My collection of these gorgeous Simply Squared Doilies is growing and just in time for fall I made them in gorgeous pumpkin colors.

August Tooling Event

I'm a member of the Leather Work Patterns Facebook Group and in August there was a "Tooling Event" for the first time. The goal of this event is to learn new techniques and to improve your skills.

Serge Volken delivered the Patterns for this first event and inspired by another Group member I tried my hand on woodgrain.

Looks even better antiqued and I think it would look great on a notebook/sketchbook cover.

Simply Squared Crochet-A-Long

Enjoying the week-long CAL by Mon Cherie Crochet called Simply Squared CAL. Beautiful pattern, which can be made from doily size to blanket size, depending on the yarn you use. I made it with sunny yellow cotton thread and a 3.5 mm hook, which makes it about placemat/mugrug size. Love it!

I also started a second one with size 5 crochet thread and was up to round 7, when I realized I had missed round 2...........frogged it! ;)

Ein neuer Anfang.../New beginning...

A friend recently inspired me to get back into drawing. I started with some simple exercises, but that got boring very soon, so I made some animal portraits.

Reh/deer

Franzl, my sweet lovebird, who sadly died some weeks ago.

Rainbows after the Rain CAL: Part 8

Hello and welcome to part 8 of the Rainbows after the Rain CAL, brought to you by  Zooty Owl and Kokopelli Design! What an awesome journey it was so far and I hope you enjoy it as much as we do. For part 8 of the Rainbows over the Namib Desert Blanket you will add the third stripe pattern in between the Wheels of Time Squares strip and the Sunny Flower Motif Squares strip. The stripe will be made of simply dc rows going back and forth.

Previous Posts

Please check the layout chart above for how to place your squares and stripes or make up your own layout to get a personalized blanket. For part 8 you will need the joined Sunny Flower Motif Squares. This strip will be joined to the Wheels of Time Squares with a Double Crochet Strip.

Row 1: Crochet a row of sc along the strip of Wheels of Time Squares or start at once with the dc rows. Don't forget to make one stitch in each corner and one stitch in the joins of the squares.

Row 2: 3ch, turn your work. Dc in each stitch across. Make sure you don't miss the very last stitch, so the edges of your dc stripe stays straight.

Continue adding dc rows to the stripe, until you reach the size you want (in my case I needed 13 cm). Then add the Sunny Flower Motif Strip with the join of your choice. I used again a sc join.

If you have any questions concerning the patterns or the CAL, join us in the Zooty Owl Crochet-a-long Facebook Group. We try to help! We would also love to see your photos of blankets and Ponchos. :)
