Zweites Leben für ein Lederhemd/Second chance for a leather shirt

Es gibt diese Arbeiten, in die man viel Herzblut investiert hat und die vom Empfänger (der sie in diesem Fall sogar bestellt hatte) nicht wirklich gewürdigt werden. Es ist inzwischen weit über 10 Jahre her, dass ich dieses Lederhemd mit über 8.000 Glasperlen bestickt habe. Es war für einen damaligen Freund und ich habe dafür einen Bogen von ihm bekommen. Leider lag das Hemd, seit er es bekommen hat, ungetragen und vergessen im Schrank. Vor einigen Jahren dann kam es zu mir zurück, durch Zufall und lieblos in eine Tüte gestopft. So hat es ein zweites Leben bekommen und ist nun der Eyecatcher auf Märkten, zusammen mit dem Bogen, gegen den ich es damals eingetauscht habe. Ich bin froh, dass es wieder bei mir ist. :)

There are these works, you put all your heart into and which aren't really appreciated by the recipient (who in this case ordered it). More than 10 years ago I embroidered this leather shirt with over 8'000 seedbeads. I did this for a former friend and traded it for a bow. Sadly after he got it, he put it in the cupboard and never pulled it out again. Some years ago I got it back, roughly stuffed in a plastic bag. So it got a second life with me as a showstopper in my booth (when I do shows) and hangs there with the bow I once traded for it. I'm glad I got it back. :)

Wurfmessertasche/Throwing knife roll

Eines meiner Hobbys ist Messerwerfen (nein, außer irgendwelchen Zombies muss ich niemand fürchten ;)) und nach sechs langen Monate ist endlich meine Wurfmessertasche fertig.

One of my hobbies is knife throwing (nope, only zombies need to be afraid ;)) and after six long months I finally finished my throw knife roll. 

Und natürlich musste auch wieder ein Tier samt Spuren mit von der Partie sein. Diesmal ist es ein Waschbär,.......

Of course there needed to be an animal with its tracks on it. This time it's a raccoon,.....

August Tooling Event

Ich bin Mitglied in der Facebook-Gruppe Leather Work Patterns und im August wurde hier erstmals ein ,,Tooling Event" ausgeschrieben, mit dem Ziel, dass man neue Techniken der Lederbearbeitung erlernt und sich verbessern kann. Bei Erfolg, soll dieser Event monatlich ausgeschrieben werden.

I'm a member of the Leather Work Patterns Facebook Group and in August there was a "Tooling Event" for the first time. The goal of this event is to learn new techniques and to improve your skills.

Nach einem Muster von Serge Volken und durch die Inspiration eines anderen Gruppenmitglieds habe ich mich an einem Holzmuster versucht.

Serge Volken delivered the Patterns for this first event and inspired by another Group member I tried my hand on woodgrain.

Mit ein bißchen Antikfarbe konnte ich es noch mehr herausarbeiten. Das würde sicher auch gut auf einem Notizbucheinband aussehen.

Looks even better antiqued and I think it would look great on a notebook/sketchbook cover.

Messer Nr. 31/Knife No 31

,,Messer" Nr. 31 ist wohl das größte Messer, das ich bisher gebaut habe. Eine Machete mit 440C-Stahl, orangefarbenen Liner, Bubingaholz, Handschlaufe, Länge 33 cm, davon 22,5 cm Klinge, Klingenrücken ca. 3,7 mm, am dünneren Teil vorne 2 mm.

"Knife" No 31 is the biggest knife I built so far. A machete with 440C steel, orange liners, bubinga wood, handstrap, length 33 cm, 22,5 cm blade, back of the blade approx. 3,7 mm, on the thinner part 2 mm.

Eine handgemachte Lederscheide von mir ist ebenfalls dabei.

The machete comes with a handmade leather sheath.

Messer Nr. 16/Knife No 16

Dieses hübsche kleine Messer habe ich bisher auch noch nicht gezeigt und dabei ist es ein wirkliches Schmuckstück. Messer Nr. 16 hat eine nicht rostfreie Damastklinge, einen Griff aus Birke mit roten Linern, Stahlnieten und einem 12 mm Mosaikpin von Pit Wagner. Die Gesamtlänge beträgt 15 cm.

I never showed you this beautiful little knife, although this one is a real gem. Knife no 16 has a damascene blade, a handle made from birch Wood, red liners, steel rivets and a 12 mm mosaic pin by Pit Wagner. The overall length is 15 cm.

Die von mir handgefertigte Lederscheide besteht aus 3mm starkem Rindsleder und wurde bordeauxrot eingefärbt und komplett punziert. Alles in allem also ein kleines Kunstwerk.

The leather sheath is handmade by me from 3mm cowhide, dyed bordeaux red and completely tooled. All together a little piece of art.

Paint Party Friday: Drache/Dragon

Um ein Logo an meinem Rucksack zu verdecken, arbeite ich an einem rechteckigen Lederpatch. Dieser Drache soll in blau mit schwarzem Hintergrund gestaltet werden.

To cover up a logo on my backpack I'm working on a rectangular leather patch. This dragon will be painted in shades of blue against a black background.

Messer Nr. 14/Knife No 14

Im letzten Jahr habe ich noch einige Messer gebaut, die ich bisher hier noch nicht gezeigt habe, die aber schon verkauft sind. Ein besonders schönes Exemplar ging zu seinem neuen Besitzer in den Schwarzwald.

Last year I made a lot of knives, that I didn't have the chance to share here and which are already sold. This really beautiful piece went to his new owner who lives in the Black Forest.

Klinge aus nicht rostfreiem Damaststahl, Griff aus Apfelholz mit wunderschöner Farbe und Maserung und mit 6mm Mosaikpin von Pit Wagner. Das Messer ist ca. 21 cm lang mit einer Klingenlänge von 12 cm.

Damascene blade, handle made of apple wood with a nice color and grain and a 6mm mosaic pin by Pit Wagner. The knife measures about 21 cm with a 12 cm blade.

Die dunkelbraune Lederscheide ist ebenfalls von mir handgefertigt, eingefärbt und mit Punzierungen versehen. Das Bild unten hat mir der zufriedene Kunde zugesandt. :)

The dark brown leather sheath is also handsewn, dyed and tooled by me. The picute below was sent to me by the happy customer. :)

Noch mehr Patches/More patches

Es war nicht einfach, mich für die nächsten Tiere auf den Lederpatches zu entscheiden, aber glücklicherweise haben mir meine Kunden geholfen.

It wasn't an easy task to decide on animals for the next leather patches, but gladly my customers helped me.

Die nächsten Patches zeigen zweimal einen Grizzly und einmal einen Akita.

Bären/Bears

Die, die mich schon länger kennen, wissen, dass ich Bären unglaublich mag. Nach meinem Eisvogel-Patch habe ich mich nun an zwei flauschige Gesellen gewagt.

Those who know me for a little longer now, know that I love bears. So after my Kingfisher patch I tried my hand on two furry buddies.

A Time To Stitch 8: What's your bag?

Finally after some months of thinking, designing, creating and waiting the big reveal of ATTS 8 is here. Thank you, Christine and Therese for hosting the event for the 8th time now. Love it!!!!

 

 

So what's my bag? It clearly is an amulet bag and since my totem animal is the polar bear it has to be bear-themed. Plus I was able to work with my two favorite materials: leather and beads. But there is much more about it. So first I made the two-drop peyote beaded paw square and added it to a handsewn deerskin amulet bag. When I thought about embellishment I found a few special pieces some dear friends, Nicole and Ursel once sent me.

 

The handmade antler button was once bought and made in Germany, then brought to the US and now sent back to me. How awesome is that? Thanky, Ursel! :)

 

Next the tin cones: I love the sound they make when the fringe moves! Simply love it. Four of the tin cones (the outer two on each side) were sent to me all the way from the Pacific Northwest by my dear friend Nicole. Thank you so much, Nicole! :)

 

I would have loved to make a beaded pendant form the black bear claw I had in my stash for years, but I couldn't gather enough infos to make the best of it, so it's in the phot unbeaded.

 

So this bag will always remember me of two dear friends I have never met in person.

Nachdem mir Fiebing's Acrylic Leather Dye nun mehrfach empfohlen wurde, habe ich mir einfach mal ein Set gekauft. Und siehe da, der Eisvogel ist gelandet!

After several people recommended Fiebing's Acrylic Leather Dye to me, I bought myself a set. And look, the Kingfisher has landed!

Ich habe diesen Aufnäher mit dem Eisvogel als Teststück ausgewählt und er ist toll geworden, finde ich. Das bringt sicher etwas Farbe in meine zukünftigen Lederarbeiten.

I made this leather patch as a test piece and I really love the outcome. This will sure bring some more color in my future leatherwork.

Messer Nr. 12/Knife No 12

Messer Nr. 12 ist ebenfalls ein Hochzeitsgeschenk und ging gemeinsam mit Messer Nr. 11 an liebe Freunde. Das Messer hat eine Klinge aus Damaststahl und einen Griff aus Maserbirke mit 3mm Messingnieten und roten Lederlinern.

Knife No 12 was a wedding gift, too, and we gave it together with Knife No 11 to very good friends. The knife has a Damascene blade and a handle made from curly birch, red leather liners and brass rivets.

Bei diesem Messer liebe ich besonders das Griffholz, das die Musterung der Damastklinge so wunderschön fortführt und so tolle Lichtreflexe zeigt, beinahe als ob Sonnenstrahlen eingefangen wären.

In this knife I especially love the handle material, which matches the Damascene pattern of the blade so well and reflects the light like sunrays are caught inside.

Das Messer wird in einer bordeauxroten Rindslederscheide am Gürtel getragen. Die Lederscheide wurde von Hand eingefärbt und punziert.

The knife can be carried on the belt in a bordeaux red cowhide sheath which was carefully dyed and tooled by hand.

Messer Nr. 11/Knife No 11

Messer Nr. 11 war ein Hochzeitsgeschenk für einen guten Freund und es kam sehr gut an.

 

Knife No 11 was a wedding gift for a good friend and it was a big hit.

 

 

Klinge aus Damaststahl, Griff aus Apfelholz mit 4mm-Mosaikpins

 

Damascene blade, handle with applewood and 4mm mosaic pins

 

Punzierte Lederscheide aus 4mm Rindsleder mit zwei Gürtelschlaufen, die es erlauben, das Messer in einer hohen und einer tiefen Position am Gürtel zu tragen.

 

Tooled sheath fom 4mm cowhide with a dangler loop, which allows to wear the knife in a high or low position on the belt.

Gemeinschaftsproduktion/Co-Production

Nun ist es schon seit längerem beim Kunden angekommen und es ist Zeit, euch diese schöne Messer vorzustellen, an dem ich dieses Mal weniger Anteil hatte als sonst. Das Messer und die Scheide ist nämlich eine Gemeinschaftsproduktion meines Holden und mir.

Now this knife arrived at his new home some weeks ago and it's about the time to tell you a bit about it. First: This time I didn't make the knife, but the whole set was a co-production of BF and me.

Das Messer hat mein Holder gemacht und es war erst sein zweites. Unglaublich, nicht? :)

The knife was made by BF and it was only his second one. Can you believe? :)

Die Klinge ist handgeschmiedet von Antti Mäkinen aus Finnland, nicht rostfrei und hat einen Griff aus Maserbirke mit einer Neusilberpassung.

The blade is handforged by Antti Mäkinen of Finland, has a curly birch handle and a German silver bolster.

Die Lederscheide ist aus 3mm Rindsleder, dunkelbraun eingefärbt und punziert.

The sheath is made from 3mm cowhide, dyed dark brown and tooled.

Messer Nr. 9: ,,Der Elch"/Knife No 9: "The Moose"

Und wieder ein Messer fertig. Ein schönes nordisches Messer mit Maserbirke, Messingpassung und Elchkopf auf der Lederscheide.

 

And another knife finished. A beautiful nordic knife with birch handle, brass bolster and a moose head on the leather sheath.

 

 

Die Klinge der Firma Lauri ist aus Kohlenstoffstahl und nicht rostfrei.

 

The Lauri 62 blade is made from carbon steel.
