Geschenk für mich/Gift for me

Ich habe mir dieses Jahr ein frühes Weihnachtsgeschenk gekauft und zwar ein Gioconda-Zeichenset von der Firma Koh-I-Noor/Hardtmudt. Diese tschechische Firma stellt seit 1790 Bleistifte her und ist damit einer der ältesten Bleistifhersteller überhaupt.

I bought myself an early Christmas gift this year: a Gioconda art set by a firm called Koh-I-Noor/Hardtmuth. This Czech firm makes pencils since 1790 and is one of the oldest pencil manufacturers around here.

Das Set enthält verschiedene Künstlerstifte, natürliche und künstliche Reisskohle, Radiergummi, Papierwischer und einen Anspitzer.

The set contains various artist pencils, natural and artificial charcoal, eraser, sharpener and a paper spreader.

Turm und Katze/Tower and Cat

Zwei meiner Zeichnungen aus der letzten Drawing Lab Woche. Hier der Stadtturm und das sogenannte Turmschulhaus, zwei historische Gebäude in meiner Heimatstadt.

Two drawings from last week's Drawing Lab assignment. This is the city tower and the so called tower school house, two historical buildings in my hometown.



Und hier ist nun endlich eine Zeichnung meiner zweiten Miezekatze. Darf ich vorstellen: Franziska! Und ja, sie ist genauso gelassen, friedlich und faul, wie sie auf dem Bild wirkt. *lol*

Sein Zwillingsbruder ist nun auch fertig! Ich habe schon den Stoff für das zweite Paar Blocks ausgelegt, diesmal ,,Nine Patch".

His twin brother is ready, too! I already cut and laid out the fabrics for the second pair of blocks: ,,Nine Patch" this time.

Erste Weihnachtsvorbereitungen/First Christmas preparations

Ja, ja, Weihnachten kommt ja jedes Jahr überraschend und ich bin eigentlich immer zu spät dran mit den Geschenken. Aber jetzt habe ich endlich meine Stoffsammlung rausgeholt und mit Nähen angefangen.

Yes, Christmas always comes unexpected and I'm always late with making gifts. But now I finally pulled out my fabric stash and started sewing.

Mehr Perlerei/More Beading

Noch ein Anhängerchen mit einem Stück Seaglass aus England. Ich habe wieder Alufolie dahintergeklebt, damit das Licht reflektiert wird. Rote und weiße Perlen bilden den Rahmen für das Glas. Mir gefällt besonders gut, wie der rote Faden durch die klaren Perlen am Rand scheint.

Another pendant I made from a piece of English seaglass. I glued foil to the back to make the pendant reflect the light through the glass. I bezeled the glass with red and white beads. I especially like how the red thread shines through clear edge beads.

Handytasche/Pouch for my Cell Phone

Diese kleine Tasche habe ich als Vorbereitung für einen Workshop über Lederverarbeitung genäht. Wir werden am Montag darüber grübeln, welche Leder-Projekte Kinder und Jugendliche interessant finden könnten. Ich habe versucht, Projekte zu finden, die sich mit möglichst wenigen Hilfsmitteln und einfachen Techniken verwirklichen lassen. Mal sehen, was dabei herauskommt.

I made a little pouch from green leather for a workshop I'll hold on Monday evening. Me and some other people will talk about what leathercraft projects could be interesting for kids to make. I tried to find projects with only few tools needed and with easy techniques to achieve a nice result. So let's see what we can come up with.

Kleine Schritte/Baby Steps

Nach meinem Großprojekt für die Do Over Challenge versuche ich nun, mit eher kleineren Projekten wieder zu den Perlen zurück zu finden.

After my big project for the Do Over Challenge I try to find my way back to the beads with smaller projects.

Ich hatte noch einige flache Seaglass-Stücke von einem größeren Projekt übrig und dachte, diese Einzelstücke würden tolle Anhänger abgeben. Hier seht ihr einen Anhänger in grün und gold. Und weitere sind bereits in Arbeit.

I had some flat seaglass pieces left from a bigger project (see below) and thought those would make nice little pendants. Heree's the first one bezeled in green and gold. And there will be more. So watch out!

Oh ja, und das war das ,,große Projekt": ein alter Spiegel von meiner Oma, aufgepeppt mit Seaglass-Stücken.

Oh yes, and here's the "big project": Grandma's old mirror, upcycled with seaglass pieces.

Drawing Lab 2011: Landschaften/Landscapes

Landschaften werden ja ganz gerne gemalt und ich habe das früher in der Schule auch häufig gemacht, da man dann keine Menschen malen mußte (das konnte ich nämlich nicht). Als allerdings Landschaften eine Aufgabe im Drawing Lab waren, da war ich ein bißchen ratlos. Aber dafür zeige ich euch, neben meinem Werk, drei andere Bilder, die mir sehr gut gefallen haben.

Landscapes are often painted and I liked doing them back in school. As long as I didn't have to draw people (which I couldn't). But when there were a landscape assignment in Drawing Lab last week, I was lost. But I'll show you three landscape paintings, I really like.

Die beiden ersten Gemälde sind von Linda. Sie hat mit Pastellkreiden die Orangenhaine und Hügel ihrer Heimat gezeichnet. Hier liebe ich besonders die Farben.

These are from Linda. She used chalk pastels and drew the local orange groves with the badlands as a backdrop. I love the colors in these.
Und dann ist da das Aquarellbild von Kat, welches mir so gut gefällt, dass ich es mir sofort an die Wand hängen würde. Sie hat eine Waldlandschaft ihrer Heimat Wisconsin gemalt.

And then there is the watercolor painting by Kat, which I like so much that I'd hang it on my wall immediately. She painted the Northwoods of Wisconsin.

Und das ist schließlich meine Zeichnung: der Blick aus meinem Büro.
