Margie & Me: #24 The River Sea

Hallo zusammen! Es ist wieder Zeit für eine Margie & Me Challenge. Dieses Mal hat Marcie eine kleine Besonderheit für uns eingebaut. Wir konnten zwischen zwei Farbpaletten wählen: #24 The River Sea aus Margie Deebs Buch oder Village Corner von Marcie selbst. Hey everyone! It is time for another Margie & Me Challenge reveal. This time Marcie added a little twist for the participants. We could choose from two color palettes: #24 The River Sea from Margie Deeb or a palette made up by Marcie called Village Corner. Ich habe mir die Fluß-Palette ausgesucht, die von den Grün- und Brauntönen des Amazonas in Südamerika inspiriert ist. Ich habe in letzter Zeit sehr viel mit Leder gearbeitet und hatte einige Reste übrig, die ich unmöglich wegwerfen konnte. Diese Reste sind perfekt für kleine Schmuckprojekte wie meinen Mixed-Media-Anhänger oder eben meinen Amazonas-Anhänger. Ich habe Leder, Lederschnur, einen Knopf von meiner Freundin Christina, eine Würfelperle, um den Knopf zu befestigen, eine handgearbeitet Metallperle und Rocailles in verschiedenen Grüntönen verarbeitet. Nachdem ich den Anhänger zusammengebastelt hatte, brauchte er noch ein wenig mehr Verzierung und so habe ich noch eine Bordüre ins Leder gebrannt. Der Anhänger steht in meinem Artfire-Shop zum Verkauf.

I chose to go with the River palette which is based on the rich green and muddy browns of the Amazon River in South America. I played a lot with leather lately and had some scraps left which I just couldn't throw away. I found that they are perfect for small jewelry projects like my mixed media charm or the Amazonas pendant for this challenge. I used leather, leather cord, an old button from my friend Christina, a cube bead to hold the button in place, a handmade gold metal bead and some seedbeads in shades of green. After assembling the pendant I decided that it needs a bit more embellishment and burnt a wave and dot border into the leather. The pendant is for sale in my Artfire Shop.

Drawing Lab 2011: Week 4

Diese Woche haben wir uns mit Wortkunst amüsiert. Ich habe zwei Zeichnungen gemacht, eine mit meinem richtigen Namen und eine mit meinem Blognamen. Für weitere Zeichnungen oder zur Anmeldung für das Drawing Lab besucht Jeannies Blog.

Ich habe diese Woche noch mehr Sachen, unabhängig von den Drawing Lab-Aufgaben, gezeichnet, aber die werde ich euch an einem anderen Tag zeigen.

I sketched some more things this week apart from the Drawing Lab assignments, but I'll share that another day.

Mixed Media Charm Contest

Leider fand der Wettbewerb nicht statt, da es nur zwei Teilnehmer gab. Aber ich zeige euch meinen Anhänger. Ich habe ihn aus einem Knopf (hübsches Design, gell?), Leder, Holz- und Messingperlen gemacht. Wenn ihr Melinda's tollen anhänger sehen wollt, klickt hier.

The Planet Series: Space Shuttle

Dieser Anhänger sollte eigentlich ein Wettbewerbsstück werden, aber irgendwie ist er aus der Rolle herausgewachsen. Auch wenn das Space Shuttle nicht direkt ein Planet ist, denke ich, daß es perfekt in meine Planeten-Serie paßt. Zu D-Mark-Zeiten gab es mal eine Briefmarken-Serie mit technischen Errungenschaften,,made in Germany". Ich habe die Briefmarke genommen, die das Space Shuttle (nein, das ist natürlich nicht ,,made in Germany") mit dem Weltraumlabor ,,Spacelab" (aber das ist ,,made in Germany") in der Ladebucht zeigt. Die Briefmarke habe ich auf einen Glas-Cabochon geklebt, mit Klarlack versiegelt und den Cabochon dann dann mit passenden Rocailles umperlt. Der Cabochon ist eine Erinnerung an ein ganz besonderes Familienereignis und zusammen mit der Briefmarke ist das ein ganz besonderer Anhänger geworden, den ich auf jeden Fall behalten werde. Man sieht es auf dem Foto nicht so toll, aber die Details auf der Briefmarke sind fantastisch und sie werden durch den Glas-Cabochon noch vergrößert.

This started out as a contest/challenge entry, but grew way to big for being a charm. And even if the Space Shuttle isn't a planet, I think that it fits perfectly in my Planet Series. Way back when Germany had still the D-Mark there was a stamp series with technical achievements which were "made in Germany". I used the stamp showing the Space Shuttle (no, of course Germany didn't built the it!) with the Spacelab (yes, that's "made in Germany") inside. I glued it to a glass cab, sealed it with mod podge and bezeled the cab with colors matching the stamp. The glass cab is also from a very special family related occasion and together with the stamp this pendant is a keeper. You can't see it in the pic, but the detail on the stamp is amazing and it is magnified by the glass cab.

Drawing Lab 2011: Woche 3/Week 3

Habt ihr jemals blind gezeichnet, als ihr noch Kinder wart? Ich habe das oft gemacht und meine Freunde und ich haben immer heftigst gelacht, wenn wir unsere Werke gesehen haben. Also war auch diese Woche beim Drawing Lab wieder sehr lustig! Wir sollten blind zeichnen, zuerst ein Objekt unserer Wahl und dann unser eigenes Gesicht. Ich habe mir eine 1,5-Liter-Sprudelflasche ausgesucht, weil ich die Form so interessant fand.

Did you ever draw blind when you were a kid? I did this a lot and me and my friends laughed so hard when we saw the outcomes of our blind drawing. So this week's assignment was fun for me....again! We had to do a blind contour drawing, first with an object and then with our own face. I chose a soda bottle as my drawing object, as I like their shape which added some interest to the exercise.

Arizona Skies

Diese Woche neu in meinem Artfire-Shop ist mein gesticktes "Arizona Skies"-Armband. Inspiriert von den südwestlichen Staaten der USA mit ihrer landschaftlichen Schönheit und ihren Farben. Diese Farben sprechen ich immer wieder an und ich bin mit dem Ergebnis dieser Freeform-Arbeit sehr zufrieden. This week's Artfire addition is a bead embroidered cuff named "Arizona Skies", because the beauty and the colors of the southwestern states of the USA inspired me to create this cuff. Adlerfedern/Eagle Feathers

Heute habe ich an einem neuen Satz Pfeile gearbeitet und die Befiederung hat mich an diese Adlerfeder-Ohrringe erinnert, die ich euch bisher noch nicht gezeigt habe.

Today I was working on a new batch of arrows and the fletching made me think of the eagle feather earrings I once made and never shared.

When the world was new, the Creator made all the birds. He colored their feathers like a bouquet of flowers. The Creator then gave each a distinct song to sing. The Creator instructed the birds to greet each new day with a chorus of their songs. Of all the birds, our Creator chose the Eagle to be the leader. The Eagle flies the highest and sees the furthest of all creatures. The Eagle is a messenger to the Creator. During the Four Sacred Riguals we will wear an Eagle Feather in our hair. To wear or to hold the Eagle Feather causes our Creator to take immediate notice. With the Eagle Feather the Creator is honored in the highest.




Und weil der Schöpfer alle Vögel mit unterschiedlichen Federn gemacht hat, mußte ich natürlich auch ein paar mehr Federn machen. Dieses Set habe ich für meinen lieben Freund Billy von Dragonfly Jewelry Designs gemacht.

Drawing Lab 2011: Woche 2/Week 2

Woche 2 ist fast um and die Aufgabe diese Woche war es, Vögel zu zeichnen und Schattierungen auszuprobieren. Jeannie hat uns sehr hilfreiche Anweisungen gegeben, wie man einen Vogel zeichnet und schattiert. Und hier sind meine Werke.

Week 2 is almost over and this week's assignment was about drawing birds and learning how to shade. Jeannie gave us detailed instructions on how to draw a bird and this helped a lot. So here is what I did.

Zuerst einige Skizzen von verschiedenen Vögeln: Adler, Papageien und Kolibris.

First some sketches of all kinds of birds like eagles, parrots and humming birds.

Dann ein Königspinguin (Aptenodytes patagonicus) mit Farbstiften auf Tonkarton, ca. 9 x 13cm. Für mich gehören Pinguine zu den süßesten Vögeln. Flugunfähig und zum Leben im Wasser geboren scheinen sie einen besonderen Platz in der Vogelwelt zu haben.

Then a king penguin (Aptenodytes patagonicus) with colored pencils on a piece of cardboard, about 3.5 x 5". For me penguins are among the cutest of birds. Bound to earth and made to live in the water they seem to have a special place in the world of birds.

Und ein Uhu (Bubo bubo), weil ich Eulen sehr liebe. Ich mag vor allem ihre Augen. Der Blick geht einem durch und durch!

And an eagle owl (Bubo bubo), as I'm deeply in love with owls. I especially love their eyes. So bright and piercing!

Doppelte Venus/Double Venus

Einer meiner Vorsätze für 2011 ist, daß ich mindestens ein neues Stück pro Woche in meinen Artfire-Shop stelle. Das Problem ist nicht, daß ich nicht genügend Stücke habe, um den Shop zu füllen, aber das Fotografieren gestaltet sich manchmal etwas schwierig: ich bin zu faul oder ich brauche hundert Versuche, um ein brauchbares Foto zu bekommen. Aber für die ersten zwei Wochen habe ich mein Ziel erreicht und habe zwei meiner gestickten Anhänger eingestellt.

One of my beady resolutions for 2011 is to list a new piece in my Artfire Shop at least once a week. The problem isn't that I don't have enough pieces to list, but I'm too lazy to photograph or I have to take hundreds of pics to get a decent shot that does the piece justice. But for the first two weeks I reached my goal and listed two of my bead embroidered pendants.

Oh WOW!

Na, ist das nicht ein Augenschmaus? Ich habe meinen Preis vom Margie & Me 2010 Award bekommen und alle diese Perlen sind so schön. Aber das war noch nicht alles! Ich durfte mir auch noch eine von Marcies Anleitungen heraussuchen (ich habe mich für den Carnaval-Anhänger entschieden) und bekomme den Spring Color Report von Margie Deeb höchstpersönlich, wenn er veröffentlicht wird. Und eins kann ich über Marcies Anleitungen sagen: das Geld ist sehr gut investiert, wenn ihr je eins kaufen möchtet. Die Schritt-für-Schritt-Anleitung ist toll und sie liefert sogar ein Blanko-Papier mit, mit dem man seine eigene Farbkombination für den Anhänger entwickeln kann. Dankeschön nochmal an alle, die für mich gestimmt haben und natürlich auch an Marcie für diese Super-Veranstaltung!

Now isn't this eye candy? I received my prize from the Margie & Me 2010 Award and all those beads are so beautiful. But that wasn't all! I also got one of Marcie's tutorials (I chose the Carnaval Pendant) and will receive the spring color report from Color Queen Margie Deeb herself when it's published. And I can say aboutone thing about Marcie's tutorials: money is very well invested if you ever decide to buy one. The step by step instructions are great and she even gives a blank graph of the pendant to develop your own colorway. Thanks again to all who voted for me and of course to Marcie for that super event!

Den Jeans-Quilt, den ich meinem Bruder und meiner Schwägerin geschenkt habe, habe ich euch ja bereits gezeigt. Die anderen Weihnachtsgeschenke konnte ich euch erst jetzt zeigen, da ich nicht sicher war, ob die Beschenkten nicht doch meinen Blog lesen.

I already showed you the denim rag quilt I made for my brother and my SIL, but I didn't show you some other gifts I made, as those people read my blog and I wasn't sure if they would see their gifts before Christmas.

Diese Donut-Anhänger nach Carol Dean Sharpe fand ich sehr hübsch und ich habe einige davon verschenkt. Den blauen habe ich selbst behalten.

I really love those donut bails by Carol Dean Sharpe and made several of them to give as gifts. But the blue one was a keeper.


Ein Tischläufer für meine Eltern, der sehr schnell fertig werden mußte. Ich habe den Stoff erst am 24. morgens bekommen und nachmittags war der Läufer dann fertig.

Drawing Lab 2011: Woche 1/Week 1

Als Katzenmensch hat mir die erste Woche bei Drawing Lab 2011 natürlich außerordentlich gut gefallen: wir sollten Katzen zeichnen! Es war sehr interessant und lustig zu sehen, wie unterschiedlich die Katzenzeichnungen der verschiedenen Teilnehmer aussahen und wie sich jeder beim Zeichnen gefühlt hat.

Dreikönigstag/Three Kings Day

Heute endet die Zeit zwischen den Jahren und damit auch die Rauhnächte. Ich möchte euch allen einen schönen Dreikönigstag wünschen! Diese drei Herren sind meine ganz ,,persönlichen" Drei Könige. Sie sind aus Metal, über einen halben Meter groß und waren ein Geschenk meiner Eltern. Ich mag sie so gern, weil sie so schön glitzern und so toll gearbeitet sind!

Today the time in between the years and the 12 Days of Christmas are over. I'd like to wish you all a happy Three Kings Day! Those three gentlemen are my "personal" Three Kings. They are made from metal, almost 2' tall and were a gift from my parents. I love them dearly because they are so sparkly and beautiful!

Lipizzaner-Ohrringe/Lipizzan earrings

Weil die liebe Susa mich so nett darum gebeten hat, hier die Ohrringe aus 5-Schilling-Stücken. Die hübschen Schmuckstückchen hat der Vater einer Freundin für mich gemacht, nachdem ich sie bei meiner Freundin gesehen hatte. Er ist Goldschmied, hat die Lipizzaner samt Reiter aus den Münzen ausgesägt, vergoldet und dann Ohrringe daraus gemacht. Da ich eine Schwäche für Österreich und für Pferde habe, liebe ich sie immer noch, obwohl ich sie bestimmt schon an die 20 Jahre habe (was man auch an der schwindenden Goldschicht sieht). Damals war ich hin und weg und heute fasziniert mich die handwerkliche Fähigkeit, diese winzigen Figuren aus dem Geldstück auszusägen.

Because Susa asked me so kindly I show these earrings made from 5-Schilling pieces (remember "Schilling" is the old Austrian currency, which was replaced by the Euro in 2003). These beautiful pieces were made by the father of a friend of mine after I've seen a similar pair on my friend. The father is a goldsmith, sawed the Lipizzan horses with rider from the coins, goldplated them and made earrings of them. Because I have a weakness for Austria and horses I still love them to pieces, although I have them for almost 20 years (as you can see from the vanishing goldplating). Back then I was thunderstruck when I got them and today I admire the workmanship put in these, when I imagine the skills needed when sawing these tiny figures out of the coins.

Hört sich gut an, gell? :-))) Ich kann es noch immer nicht glauben, aber ich habe den Margie and Me 2010 People's Choice Award gewonnen! Marcie von La Bella Joya hat uns zum letzten Mal für 2010 herausgefordert und es hat sehr viel Spaß gemacht. Vielen Dank an alle, die für mich abgestimmt haben und ich gratuliere allen anderen Teilnehmern, die so tolle Stücke eingereicht haben.

Sounds good, yes? :-))) I still can't believe it, but I won the Margie and Me 2010 People's Choice Award! Ich bin ein bißchen spät dran, ich weiß es und ich entschuldige mich auch dafür. Aber ich hatte an Silvester nur die Zeit, den Namen des Gewinners zu ziehen. Den Rest des Tages habe ich draußen verbracht: Bogenschießen, Grillen, Lagerfeuer und jede Menge Schnee und Feuerwerk. Es war sehr lustig. Die Bilder zeigen ein bißchen was vom Outdoor-Spaß.

I'm late, I know about it and I'm sorry. But I had only time to draw the name for the magazine giveaway yesterday. The rest of the day was spent outdoors with archery, campfire, barbecue and lots of snow and fireworks. It was fun. I took the pics while walking outside.
