Verzierte Gesichter/Decorated face cabs

Einfache Gesichter sind ja eigentlich langweilig und so habe ich angefangen, die Gesichter mit kleinen Extras zu verzieren. Ich finde sie total süß und sie sind toll aus dem Ofen gekommen. Einmal haben wir Flora, die friedlich unterm Blätterdach schlummert, benannt nach der römischen Göttin der Blüte und der Jugend. Und dann haben wir noch einen blauen Herrn Mond mit seinen funkelnden Sternenfreunden. In Artfire sind sie auch schon.

Only simple faces seems now boring to me and so I tried to make some decorated faces. I think they are cute and came nicely out of the oven. The first pic shows Flora, Roman goddess of blooming and youth, peacefully slumbering under the trees. The second face is a blue Mr Moon, accompanied by sparkling golden stars. They are already listed here.

Heute geht es um einen richtigen Lebensbaum und eine Geschichte, die mir zu Herzen geht. Cori, die Künstlerin hinter Electric Rainbow, hat diese Kette entworfen, um einer Freundin zu helfen, die an Brustkrebs erkrankt ist und keine Krankenversicherung hat. Bis zum heutigen Tag hat sie über 200 dieser Ketten verkauft und konnte $2000 zur Bezahlung der Rechnungen beitragen. Wenn ihr auch so einen schönen Baum oder ein ganzes Set haben möchtet, dann besucht Cori's Etsy-Shop. Es gibt mehrere Farben, unter denen man auswählen kann.

Und bitte achtet auch auf eure eigene Gesundheit und geht zu Vorsorgeuntersuchungen! Sie können den Unterschied ausmachen. Und allen, die gerade mit einer Krankheit kämpfen, wünsche ich viel Kraft und Heilung!

Today I'd like to share with you a tree of life story that touched my heart. Cori, the artist behind Electric Rainbow, designed this tree of life necklace as a fundraiser for her friend, who has breast cancer and no health insurance. To date she has sold over 200 of these necklaces and donated $2000 to her friend's medical bills. So if you like to help and buy one of these necklaces or an additional set with earrings, anklet and bracelet, go to Cori's Etsy shop and look through the trees. There are several colors to choose from.

Please take care of your own health and do medical check-ups! They can make the difference. To all of you, who are battling with some kind of illness, I wish you strength and healing!

Heute geht es um Bäume mit dem gewissen Etwas. Cat von Boo Beads, die mich immer wieder mit ihren Drahtkünsten verblüfft, fügt ihren Bäumen immer einen kleinen Hingucker hin, der einen zum Schmunzeln bringt. Seht ihr die kleine Schaukel im ersten Baum (Danke für die Kindheitserinnerungen, Cat!)? Und den Kürbis unter dem Herbstbaum? Das hat doch was!

Today I'll tell you about trees with a "twist". This post is about Cat of Boo Beads, who amazes me with her wireworking skills and the fact that she always adds a little extra to her trees. Can you see the little swing in the first tree (Thanks for bringing back childhood memories, Cat!)? And the pumpkin under her fall tree of life? Now how cool is that!

Ich habe meinem ersten Baum als kleines Extra ein paar knackige rote Äpfel verpaßt. Mein erster Baum-Anhänger mußte natürlich ein Apfelbaum sein, als Erinnerung an den Baum, in dem als Kind meine Schaukel hing. Leider wurde der Baum schon lange gefällt.

I also made my first tree with a little extra by adding big red apples to it. My first tree had to be an apple tree, in honor of the tree that held my swing when I was a kid. Sadly the tree is gone for some years now.

I'm in love with an alien!

War das nicht ein Lied von der Kelly Family? Das hier mußte ich euch unbedingt zwischen den ganzen Bäumen zeigen. Dieses Alien kam gerade aus dem Ofen. Ich habe versucht, mit FIMO Jade zu imitieren, aber die Stücke sehen eher alien-artig aus und scheinen grün zu glühen. Ich habe den Herren Außerirdischen in meinem Artfire-Shop gestellt, falls ihn jemand genauso liebt wie ich und ihm ein Raumschiff basteln möchte, damit er heimfliegen kann. Und Halloween ist ja auch nicht mehr weit. *LOL*

Wasn't that a song by The Kelly Family? I had to share this in between the tree posts. This alien just came out of my oven. I was trying to produce faux jade polymer clay, but the pieces look more alien-space-like and seem to glow. I listed Mr Alien on Artfire, in case someone loves hi as much as I do and wants to make a spaceship for him so he can fly home. And Halloween is just around the corner. *LOL*

In letzter Zeit habe ich viele Designs mit dem Lebensbaum im Netz gesehen und schnell wurde dieses Design eines meiner Favoriten. Und so habe ich angefangen, Fotos und Anleitungen von Blog-Freunden zu sammeln und habe mich auch an meine ersten Baum-Anhänger gewagt. Diese Woche werde ich euch deswegen viele Bäume zeigen und die talentierten Künstler, die sie gemacht habe. Ich hoffe, ihr mögt diesen Augenschmaus genauso wie ich.

Den Anfang macht heute Yeli von Imaginative Jewelry und sie beschreibt auf ihrem Blog, wie sie das Projekt von der Idee in die Wirklichkeit umgesetzt hat. Herausgekommen sind die beiden ,,Baum-Brüder" im Bild oben. Und das finde ich das eigentlich Faszinierenden an den Bäumen: keine zwei Anhänger sehen gleich aus!

Lately I saw lots of tree of life designs on the net and it soon became one of my favorite designs. So I started to gather photos and tutorials from blogging friends and even made my own tree pendants. This week I'll show you many trees and the talented artists behind. I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I do.

Today I start with Yeli of Imaginative Jewelry, who describes the making of her tree pendants from the idea in her head to the final pendant(s): she made the two "tree brothers" in the pic above. And that's the fascinating point for me in those pendants: no two are exactly alike!

Vier Farben/Four Colors

Hier seht ihr die ersten Ergebnisse meiner Spinnkünste. Man sieht deutlich die Entwicklung der Garnstärke und Qualität von links oben nach rechts unten. Links oben habe ich zuerst gesponnen und rechts unten zuletzt. Nun muß es nur noch verstrickt oder verhäkelt werden.



Here you can see the first outcomes of my spinning skills. One can see the increasing quality of the yarn from top left to bottom right. Now I just have to knit or crochet something with it.

Planeten-Serie: Pluto/The Planet Series: Pluto

Pluto ist ein ganz kleiner Planet, der am äußeren Rand unseres Sonnensystems um unsere Sonne kreist. Er ist klein und es gibt heftige Diskussionen darum, ob Pluto überhaupt ein Planet ist. Er hat auch einen Begleiter: den Mond Charon. Pluto ist keiner der ,,Stars" unseres Sonnensystems, mehr ein Starlet, daß sich in den Tiefen des Raums versteckt, und so ist auch das Schmuckstück, das ihn repräsentiert, eher einfach gehalten. Deshalb ist es aber nicht weniger schön als die anderen Stücke der Planetenserie, aber mehr etwas für jeden Tag. Das FIMO-Gesicht ist mit 11/0- und 15/0-Rocailles umperlt und hängt an einer Mehrstrang-Kette aus farblich passenden 11/0-Rocailles.

Pluto is a very small and icy world orbiting our sun on the outer rim of the solar system. He is small and lately there is a discussion taking place, if Pluto is still considered a planet or not. He has a small moon as his companion called Charon. Pluto isn't one of the "stars" in our solar system, more a starlet hiding away in deep space, so the jewelry piece representing him is understated and simple, but not less beautiful than the other pieces of the series. The pc face cab is surrounded by 11/0 and 15/0 seedbeads and hangs from a multistrand seedbead necklace made from the same beads used in the pendant.

DER Blick..../THE Look....

Das ist Franziska, meine Halbperser-Mieze. Als ich dieses Foto gemacht habe, hatte sie den "STÖR MICH NICHT BEIM SCHLAFEN"-Blick drauf. Seht ihr das rote T-Shirt rechts? Das hat sie sich aus dem Wäschekorb gezupft, weil Madame ja was Weiches unter ihrem Kopf braucht.

That's Franziska, my half Persian cat. When I took this photo she had that look on her face saying: "DO NOT DISTURB ME WHEN I'M SLEEPING!" See the red shirt on the right? She pulled it out of the laundry basket because she decided that she's more comfortable with having somthing soft under her head.

Die Terrakotta-Serie/The Terracotta Series

Sehen die nicht richtig alt und verwittert aus mit der Patina? Wie richtiges Terrakotta? Isses aber ned! :-) Ich habe eine neue Modelliermasse gefunden (Efaplast von Eberhard Faber), die nach dem Trocknen aussieht wie echtes Terrakotta, aber weder gebrannt werden muß noch so schwer wie Terrakotta ist. Man kann die Masse nach dem Modellieren ganz einfach in der Mikrowelle härten (dabei bildet sich auch die Patina) und sie ist danach federleicht, also ideal für alle Bastelarbeiten. Und da habe ich gleich ein paar neue Gesichter gemacht. Perlen mußten mit der Masse aber auch super aussehen und bemalen kann man sie wohl auch. Es darf also experimentiert werden. Die Gesichter in dem Bild sind allesamt im Artfire-Shop gelistet, da ich im Moment keine Idee für ein Schmuckstück habe und eh noch größtenteils mit Spinnen und Weben beschäftigt bin.

Don't they look antique with the patina? Like real terracotta? But they aren't! :-) I discovered a new modeling clay (Efaplast by Eberhard Faber, which is the firm that also makes FIMO polymer clay), which looks like real terracotta after drying, but doesn't have to be burnt in an oven and isn't as heavy as terracotta. It can be dried in a microwave (where the patina appears) and is light as a feather after that, so perfect for any crafting projects. And so I made some new faces with it. Beads made from this clay must also look good. I can smell new experiments ahead, The faces in the picture are all listed in my Artfire shop, because I don't have an idea atm and am busy with spinning and weaving.

Ich habe nun endlich angefangen, einige der vom Giveaway übriggebliebenen Cabochons in meinen Artfire-Shop einzustellen. Sie sind dort zu sehr günstigen Preisen zu haben. Ich werkle ebenfalls an einer neuen Serie mit einer anderen Modelliermasse. Ihr dürft also gepannt sein.

I finally started listing the remaining cabs from my giveaway. They're available for reasonable prices in my Artfire shop. Of course, I will also list new ones, because I work on a new line of face cabs with a different kind of clay. So wathc out!

Natural Materials Challenge: Steiniger Regenbogen/Rocky Rainbow

Dieses Armband gefällt mir besonders gut! Alle Steine bis auf die große Korallenperle sind aus dem Kit und als ich sie auf dem Tisch ausgelegt habe, wurde ein Regenbogen draus. Im Armband sind enthalten: Jaspis, Karneol, Goldfluß (Achtung, kein echter Stein, sondern Glas!), Koralle (ok, eigentlich auch kein Stein, aber die farbe hat so gut gepaßt), Amethyst, gefärbter Howlite (nee, leider kein Türkis), Hämatit, Aventurin und noch ein paar andere. Die Zwischenperlen, die große Hohlperle und der Verschluß sind aus 925er Sterlingsilber. Schööööööön, gell?

I really like this bracelet! All stones except the big coral bead are from the kit and as I laid them out on the table I could see a rainbow. The stones are jasper, carnelian, gold"stone" (not really a stone, but glass), coral (ok, also not a stone, but the color fitted ;-)), amthyste, dyed howlite (sorry, no turquoise), hematite, aventurine and some more. The spacer beads, the filigree bead and the clasp are 925 sterling silver. Beautiful, isn't it?

Und läuft und läuft....../And runs and runs.......

Hier ist ein Foto vom Ashford-Spinnrad mit der fünften Wollfarbe, die ich bisher gesponnen habe. Die vier ersten Farben waren aus dem geld-rot-orangefarbenem Spektrum und ich würde daraus gern eine kleine Tasche häkeln und danach versuchen, sie in der Maschine zu filzen. Mal sehe, wie das wird. Im Moment spinne ich gerade grüne und blaue Wolle für das nächste kleine Projekt.

Here's a pic of the Ashford Spinning Wheel with the fifth color of wool on the bobbin. I already spun four colors in the yellow-orange-red spectrum and would like to crochet a little pouch with the yarn. What else cam to my mind is, that I could try to felt this bag in the washing machine after crocheting. This would make the meshes disappear and give the bag a smoother look. So let's see. The next color spectrum I'm spinning is green-blue, also four colors.

Natural Materials Challenge: Set in braun/Set in brown

Bei all den Brauntönen mußte ich einfach ein Bettelarmband aus Kupfer machen und dazu passende Ohrringe. Das Armband fühlt sich toll an, wenn man es trägt und die Perlmutt-Perlen an den Ohrringen haben ein wunderschönes Muster.

Seeing all the earthy colored beads and charms, I had to make a copper charm bracelet and matching earrings. I love how the bracelet feels on and the mop beads on the earrings are so beautiful.

Natural Materials Challenge: Ohrringe/Earrings

Es war wieder mal Zeit für eine Challenge auf Beadingdaily. Dieses Mal drehte sich alles um natürliche Materialien wie Steine, Perlen, Holz, Samen, Muscheln etc. Das Päckchen war mal wieder eine tolle Mischung von allen Teilnehmern. Ich zeige meine Sachen hier in mehreren Etappen, damit ihr Zeit zum Genießen habt. :-) Erstmal also Ohrringe. Und wer noch nicht genug gesehen hat, der kann hier die Kreationen der anderen Teilnehmer sehen.

It was challenge time once again on Beadingdaily. This time it was all about natural materials like stones, pearls, wood, seeds, shells etc. The kit was again a great mix, sent by all participants.
